SUV Flies Off Overpass in Fresno Killing Driver

November 29, 2011- A driver was killed in a crash in Fresno, Tuesday morning on the westbound transition from Highway 168 to Highway 180. The accident happened at about 3:00 AM.

The driver, Jordan Stokes, was traveling in a 2006 Ford Escape, when he lost control of his vehicle. The Ford drifted off the highway, hit the center divide before Olive Avenue and struck a road sign.

The vehicle went airborne as it traveled over the overpass and crashed into a dirt embankment on the south side of the street, under the Highway 168 overpass.



Stokes was thrown from his SUV. He received major injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.

The CHP are investigating the cause of the crash. They claim that fog was not a factor.

Pedestrian Hit and Killed by a Semi Truck

November 29, 2011- A pedestrian was killed Tuesday morning in a crash, in Bakersfield.

Barbara Ann Reaves, 75, was walking across the crosswalk, headed east on Brundage Lane. The light at the intersection of Brundage and Mt. Vernon Avenue turned green as she was still crossing. A semi truck driver seeing that the light was green proceeded through the intersection, and slammed into Reaves.


Reportedly the truck driver didn’t see the woman.

Fatal Semi Truck Crash near Bakersfield

November 28, 2011- An SUV and semi truck crash ends fatally, southwest of Bakersfield, on Monday at about 6:15 PM.

Bryan Christopher Osper, of El Cajon, was driving his SUV on Copus Road, just east of I-5. He was parked along the south shoulder of the roadway, when he then attempted to make a U-turn and drove right into the path of an oncoming big rig. The big rig broadsided the SUV.


Osper was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The semi truck driver, who was from Lamont, was not injured.

Grapevine Accident Near Gorman Ends in Fatality

November 27, 2011- A crash occurred Sunday morning on Interstate 5, near Gorman, killing one person and injuring two others. The accident happened at about 6:30 AM.

A Chevy Tahoe with five people from the Los Angeles area, were traveling on I-5 along the Grapevine. The Chevy was in the fast lane and drifted off the shoulder, then swerved, crossed all four lanes and crashed into the Gorman bridge.

It is reported that two of the backseat passengers were not wearing their seatbelts. They were thrown from the vehicle, and fell down onto the Gorman School Road below.

A 21-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Alexander Vega, the other person that was ejected from the Tahoe, suffered major injuries.

Another occupant of the vehicle had moderate injuries, while the driver and the last passenger sustained only minor injuries.

The CHP are investigation the cause of the collision.

Child Hit by Vehicle While Riding Bike near Selma

November 25, 2011- An accident involving an 8 year-old bicyclist and a vehicle occurred Friday at about 10:40 AM, near Selma, just minutes from Fresno.

The child was riding his bike at the intersection of Peach Avenue and Huntsman Avenue, when the vehicle hit the bicycle.

The child suffered a broken leg, and hip, along with other injuries.

The child was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Update: SUV Flips Over on Interstate 5 near Bakersfield

November 24, 2011- An update to the two people were killed in a crash on I-5 near Highway 223 outside Bakersfield, early Thursday morning.

The family of seven from Oxnard were traveling northbound on Interstate 5 when their SUV overturned and ended up in the southbound lanes.

The two people that were killed were ejected from the backseat. They have been identified as Daisy Alfaro, 17, and Jesus Alfaro, 23. Jesus Alfaro was Daisy’s uncle.


The five people that survived were two adults and three children, aged; 1, 3, and 13.

Car Rolls into an Orchard on Highway 58

November 24, 2011- An accident Thanksgiving day ends with a vehicle overturned in an orchard on Highway 58, near Bakersfield.

Two people from Bakersfield, were traveling east on Hwy 58, to a family gathering in Mojave. The car they were driving in, blew a tire as they were heading down the highway.


The car rolled several time and ended up in an orchard near Tower Line Road.

Both occupants were not seriously hurt.

SUV Flips Over on Interstate 5 near Bakersfield

November 24, 2011- All southbound lanes of I-5 were closed for a couple hours Thursday morning after a fatal crash, west of Bakersfield.

A family of seven was headed north in an SUV when the vehicle flipped over onto the grassy field in the center median, and finally coming to rest in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5, just south of Bear Mountain Boulevard.


Two people in the SUV died at the scene of the accident, one of them a teenage girl. One person with major injuries was medi-flighted to the hospital. The four other occupants were also hurt and taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment.

The CHP are investigating the cause of the crash.

Woman Collides with Walnut Tree near Farmersville

November 21, 2011- A pregnant woman crashed into an orchard on Avenue 256, southeast of Visalia, at about 8 PM Monday night.

The woman was driving her Chevy Impala east on Avenue 256, when she looked down to change the radio station, and crashed into a walnut tree in an orchard on the side of the road, at Farmersville Boulevard.

Two children, who were occupants in the car, were pinned in their car seats for several minutes until the Tulare County Fire Department were able to cut the seats from the vehicle.


The mother and children were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The CHP said that fog was moving into the area when the crash occurred, and that might have been a factor in the accident.

Update: Train Collides With Dump Truck in Goshen

November 21, 2011- An update to the accident that happened Monday between a freight train and a dump truck, northwest of Goshen, within minutes of Visalia.

The MD Concrete Cutting & Demolition truck driver has been identified as Victor Valdez.

The crash also damaged the train tracks, besides the damage to the San Joaquin Railroad freight train's damages.

Officials reported that the truck was heading south on Road 60 at about 55 mph as it approached the tracks. While the train was eastbound at about 20 mph on its way to Exeter.


The train’s crew blew the horn as it approached the intersection. But Valdez clamed to have only seen the train at the last second.

Both vehicles tried to brake, but with the size of the vehicles they were not able to stop in time. Valdez swerved to the left, off the road, but with the truck’s speed, it still veered across the train tracks about 35 feet from the road, where the train slammed into the truck and trailer it was hauling.


Valdez suffered major injuries. He was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical for treatment.

Another accident occurred at this same intersection in June. A woman, Debbie Felix, was killed when her car was hit by a train.

Fatal Crash on Avenue 232 near Tulare

November 6, 2011- A driver was fatally injured in a crash west of Tulare, just miles from Visalia, on Sunday at approximately 4:50 AM.

Joel Moreno, of Earlimart, was driving east on Avenue 232, west of Road 56, when the Nissan Altima he was driving drifted across the westbound lanes and crashed into a power pole.

Moreno was the only person in the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. No one else was involved in the crash.

Semi Looses Load on Rosedale Highway in Bakersfield

November 21, 2011- A semi truck causes traffic delays in a crash on Rosedale Highway, in northwest Bakersfield, at about 12:00 PM.

A big rig carrying concrete slabs, lost its load while headed down Rosedale Highway near Buck Owens Boulevard. Traffic was partially shut down while crews came in with a crane to clean up the mess.

Train Collides With Dump Truck in Goshen

November 21, 2011- A train and a dump truck crashed at an unprotected railroad crossing, near Goshen, 10 minutes from Visalia. The accident happened at about 2:10 PM.

The truck, which was carrying a Bobcat tractor on a trailer, was southbound on Road 60, when it collided with the San Joaquin Railroad freight train that was traveling east on a track paralleling Avenue 308, west of Highway 99.

The CHP have reported that the truck’s driver failed to make a complete stop before crossing the tracks. The train stuck him at the rear of the truck and pushed the MD Concrete Cutting dump truck 100 feet before it was able to stop.

Three or four cars and the engine came off the tracks, but did not topple over. And about 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel leaked from the train.



A hazmat team was called in to get rid of the fuel. And a crane was used to remove the truck from the train tracks.

The 25 year old driver of the truck suffered moderate to major injuries in the crash. He was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center.

It is reported that this is second accident to have happened at the same crossing in the past few months. A 31 year old woman, Debbie Felix, died in June, when her car was hit by a train.

Car Rolls Over in Bakersfield on Niles Street

November 18, 2011- A crash occurred on Friday afternoon causing a car to rollover.

The accident happened at Niles Street and Alta Vista Drive in Bakersfield. The vehicle looks like it's a white four door sedan.

Young Woman Dies in Accident on I-5 near Bakersfield

November 19, 2011- a pickup truck flipped over late Saturday night, on Interstate 5, just north of Bakersfield, killing one passenger and seriously injuring the other two occupants.

The truck’s driver, Steven Underwood, fell asleep behind the wheel while driving on I-5. He woke up when the truck drifted onto the center median, just north of Merced Avenue. Underwood swerved causing the pickup to cross the lanes, and drive off the shoulder. The truck then overturned into a dirt field, east of northbound I-5.

The right rear passenger, Kjerstin Underwood, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene of the accident.

Steven Underwood, and the other passenger, Kayleigh Underwood, suffered moderate to major injuries. They were taken to Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield.

The CHP reported that all passengers were wearing their seat belts during the crash.

Kingsburg Man Arrested After Crash near Selma

November 20, 2011- A 19-year-old was arrested after a crash on Sunday east of Selma, 10 minutes from Fresno. The accident occurred at about 2 PM.

The Kingsburg man was driving his car south on Zediker Avenue when he ran a stop sign at the intersection of Rose Avenue. A truck, driven by a 52 year old Selma man, traveling east collided with the car’s passenger side.

A 21-year-old passenger in the car, from Dinuba, received major injuries and was taken by ambulance to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. The car’s driver received minor injuries, and was also taken to the hospital, where he was arrested for driving under the influence.

The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries and was not hospitalized.

Man Struck By FAX Bus in Fresno

November 6, 2011- A pedestrian was hit by a FAX bus, in Fresno, Sunday afternoon. The accident occurred near First Avenue and Garland Avenue near Dakota Ave.

The man was on the right shoulder median and walked into the road, where he was struck by a FAX bus. Reasons are unknown as to why he walked into the street in front of the bus.

He suffered serious injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center.

November 15, 2011- An update to the crash that occurred Tuesday night, where a 13 year-old girl was killed while running across Highway180, in Fresno.

Car Crashes in Kern River Canyon

November 14, 2011- An elderly woman drove off the side of Kern River Canyon in Bakersfield, on Monday at about 5 PM.

The woman was eastbound on Highway 178 when she swerved. She overcorrected and went off the side of the canyon, rolling her car.


She was pinned in the car, but a witness to the crash, stopped and helped her get out.

She was injured, but is expected to survive.

Man in Wheelchair Killed in Madera County

November 15, 2011- a man in a wheelchair was killed in Madera County, north of Fresno at about 6:30 PM, Tuesday night.

The victim, Jesse Richard Rosales, 60, was riding in his wheelchair north on Road 30 ½, near Avenue 21 ½ . He was struck by a northbound Ford truck, driven by R. Ziolkowski of Madera.

The impact of the crash knocked Rosales into the southbound lane, where he was then hit by a Toyota pickup, driven by Virginia Martinez, of Madera.


Rosales was hit and killed only one mile from his house.

The drivers that hit him will not be charged in the accident.

Semi Flips Over on McHenry Avenue in Modesto

November 15, 2011- A semi truck carrying a load of firewood overturned in north Modesto, on Tuesday afternoon. The accident occurred at about 1:30 PM.

The driver of the Lionudakis Firewood big rig, was driving on McHenry Avenue when the truck’s front axle broke. The vehicle tipped over near Bangs Avenue.



Fuel began leaking from the rig, after the crash, forcing some lanes of the street to close.

The driver of the semi received moderate injuries to his arm and was taken to the hospital.

School Bus Rear-ended in Dinuba

November 17, 2011- A school bus was rear-ended in Dinuba, north of Visalia, on Thursday at about 7 AM.

The school bus was traveling on Avenue 408, near Road 64 and Kamm Avenue. Another vehicle ran into the back of it at Road 56.

The bus was unable to move, because the second vehicle was stuck underneath it.

Highway 99 Crash Totals Two Vehicles in Fresno

November 15, 2011- A two vehicle crash on Highway 99 occurred in Fresno, Tuesday night.

The accident happened just north of Ashlan Avenue, on Hwy 99. A man driving a Corvette drove into the center lane and clipped a white car.

Both cars spun out. The white car flipped over and the Corvette crashed into the center divide.


Crews had to use the jaws of life to get the Corvette’s driver out of his vehicle.

No one was seriously injured from the collision.

The CHP said that the driver of the Corvette admitted that he had been drinking alcohol.

Boy Struck by Truck While Riding Bike in Fresno

November 15, 2011- An 11 year-old boy was hit while riding his bike, in Fresno near Al Radka Park.

The boy was leaving the park and crossing the street, when a pickup truck going east on Belmont Avenue struck him. It is reported that the truck was going at least 40 mph.

The boy was taken to Community Regional Medical Center. He is said to be in critical, but stable condition.

The truck driver was cooperative with officers, and was not suspected of driving under the influence.

Pedestrian Killed While Crossing Hwy 180 in Fresno

November 15, 2011- A teenager was struck and killed while crossing a freeway in Fresno, Tuesday night. The accident happened at about 6:30 PM.

Angel Perez, 13, was walking to the store with her two friends in southeast Fresno, on Cedar Avenue near Highway 180. She decided to take a shortcut and illegally cross the 180 to meet her two friends who had crossed using the Cedar Ave./Hwy 168 overpass sidewalk.


She went down to the freeway to run across and meet back up with the girls. A car, driven by a 25 year old man who was commuting home and going the speed limit, struck Perez as she was darting across the freeway.

Perez died at the scene of the crash. The driver was not injured, but his vehicle suffered major damage.

Three Vehicle Crash on Santa Fe Drive in Merced

November 6, 2011- A three vehicle crash happened on Santa Fe Drive in Merced, Sunday morning.

A black Honda Civic was traveling eastbound on Santa Fe Drive headed towards Chestnut Lane at approximately 55 mph. The driver of the Honda didn’t see a stopped car in the road that was waiting to turn onto Chestnut Lane.


The Honda hit the Sentra, spun around and then collided with a truck.

The driver of the Honda received minor injuries and was taken to Mercy Medical Center.

Two Vehicle Collision on Demaree St. in Visalia

November 16, 2011- A two vehicle crash occurred Wednesday morning on Demaree Street, in Visalia. The accident happened at about 7:15 AM.

A Toyota Matrix, driven by Dan Cranston, was traveling north on Demaree, at about 55 mph. A Honda Accord, driven by Hector Medina, was stopped at the stop sign on Shannon Parkway. Medina did not see the Toyota and pulled out right in front of it.

Cranston slammed on his brakes and swerved to the left, but could not avoid the Honda in time. The Toyota hit the front of the Honda. The front of both vehicles received extensive damage.

Cranston and Medina suffered only minor injuries. Neither were taken to the hospital.

Fatality in Crash near Easton

November 7, 2011- A deadly crash happened near Easton, south of Fresno, on Monday just before 11:30 AM.

The accident happened at Chestnut and Jefferson avenues. Officers report that Martin Diaz, 19, was speeding on Chestnut Avenue, when he slammed into the back of a stopped car that was in front of him.


Another 19 year-old passenger in Diaz’s car was killed. Diaz and a third occupant in the vehicle were taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. Diaz was later arrested on vehicular manslaughter charges.

The driver of the stopped car was not hurt in the collision.

Two Car Collision Near Livingston

November 8, 2011- Three people were seriously hurt in a crash south of Livingston, just north of Fresno, Tuesday afternoon.

A Honda Accord driven by Victor Curiel of Atwater, was traveling east on Sunset Boulevard at about 50-60 mph. Another Honda Accord, driven by Mario Garcia of Livingston, was headed north on Howard Road at 40-50 mph.

Curiel ran the stop sign posted at the intersection of Sunset and Howard. His car crashed into the left front side of Garcia’s vehicle.

Garcia, and passengers, Efrain Lopez and Malakias Perez, both of Livingston, suffered major injuries. They were taken to Modesto hospitals for treatment. Curiel received moderate injuries and was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Merced.

Pedestrian Killed on Shaw Avenue in Fresno

November 12, 2011- A Fresno man was killed after he was hit by a truck Saturday morning. The accident occurred at 5:45 AM.

The pedestrian, Adam Sotello, was walking onto Shaw Avenue, at Effie Street. It is reported that Sotellp walked off the center median into a westbound lane of Shaw Ave, where he was hit by a truck.

Sotello was confirmed dead at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the truck was not cited for the incident.

Fatality South of Fresno in Two Vehicle Crash

November 7, 2011- A 19-year-old Hanford man died in a crash Monday morning, south of Fresno. The accident happened at about 11:18 AM.

The collision occurred near Jefferson Avenue and Chestnut Avenue, between a small SUV and a Honda sedan.

The passenger in the Honda, who has been identified as Ricardo Contreras, died from the collision.

Head-on Accident on Walnut Avenue in Visalia

November 10, 2011- A head-on crash occurred in Visalia, Thursday at about 12:30 PM.

A black Honda Accord was going east on Walnut Avenue, when a silver Pontiac Grand Am was turning south into the Kohl’s shopping center at the intersection of Walnut and South Central Street. The two cars crashed head-on.



The driver of the Honda and a passenger in the Pontiac suffered minor injuries from the airbags deploying. They were taken to Kaweah Delta Medical for treatment.

FAX Bus Hits Sedan in Fresno

November 8, 2011- A Fresno Area Express bus crashed into a car Tuesday at about 12:15 PM in downtown Fresno.

The Ford sedan pulled in front of the FAX bus at the intersection of M Street and San Benito, while it was coming off Highway 41. Police said the driver stopped at a stop sign, then continued into traffic without seeing the bus.

The driver of the bus was eastbound on M Street when the car pulled in front of the bus. The bus driver slammed on the brakes, but the bus hit the back of the Ford. The crash caused some damage to the rear of the car. The bus had some minor damage.

The car’s driver and passenger escaped the accident unscathed, but the bus driver and the 13 passengers riding the bus suffered minor injuries. They were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Head-on Crash at Bullard and Chestnut in Fresno

November 4, 2011- A head-on crash happened Friday morning at 2 AM, in Fresno. The accident occurred at Bullard Avenue and Chestnut Avenue.

A Chevy truck and a Jeep hit each other head-on, after one of the drivers went over the center median. Then a third vehicle crashed into the Chevy and Jeep before the police arrived at the scene.

Both front ends of the Jeep and Chevy were completely destroyed.

All people involved in the collision suffered only minor to moderate injuries. They were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Four Vehicle Collision on Highway 99 in Bakersfield

November 4, 2011- A crash involving four vehicles occurred on Highway 99 in Bakersfield, Friday, at 9:10 AM.

A Toyota pickup truck was merging onto southbound Hwy 99, near Rosedale Highway, when the driver was clipped by a PT Cruiser. The Toyota then lost control and crashed into a semi truck.

The white pickup then ended up swerving and crashed into the center divider of the freeway, where a fourth vehicle crashed into it.


Officers reported that five people in the truck were trapped inside until emergency crews were able to pull them out.


Those involved in the accident suffered minor to moderate injuries. They were taken to Kern Medical Center.

The CHP said that the weather, which had been rainy, was a major factor in the crash.

Nissan and Motorcycle Collide Throwing Rider in Fresno

October 29, 2011- A motorcycle crash in Fresno sends the rider to the hospital, and lands another man in jail, Saturday evening. The accident occurred at about 5 PM.

The motorcyclist, a 48 year-old man from Clovis, was traveling southbound on Villa Avenue. A Nissan Sentra driven by a 24 year-old Clovis man, pulled out right in front of the rider, at Herndon Avenue.

The crash threw the motorcyclist several feet through the air. He suffered serious injury and was taken to a local hospital.

The Nissan’s driver was arrested for DUI, and was booked into the Fresno County Jail.

Bakersfield Deputy Slams into Guard Rail

October 27, 2011- A Kern County sheriff’s deputy crashed his patrol car into a guard rail, Thursday at about 12:45 AM.

Deputy Allan Scott Heathcott, a 13 year veteran of the sheriff’s office, was driving west on 7th Standard Road. Less than a mile west of the Highway 99 over crossing. While traveling westbound he slammed into a guard rail in the center divider.

The impact from the accident caused the metal portion of the guard rail to be impaled into the passenger side of the cabin. Heathcott was pinned in his vehicle for an hour and a half, before fire fighters were able to extricate him from the car.


Heathcott suffered major injuries and was taken to Kern Medical Center to be treated for massive head trauma.

What caused the deputy to hit the guard rail is still unclear. The crash is under investigation.

Pedestrian Struck and Killed in Bakersfield

October 28, 2011- A Bakersfield man was killed Friday night while crossing South Chester Avenue, just after 7 PM.

The CHP said that the pedestrian was crossing Chester Ave. near Ming Avenue and was walking outside the crosswalk. He was headed in a westerly direction, when he was hit by a pickup truck that was driving south on South Chester.

The man was taken to Kern Medical Center, were he died from his injuries.

The driver of the truck, Salvador Tinajero, was not injured and not charged.

Fresno Accident on Highway 180 Leaves One Person Dead

October 31, 2011- An accident eight miles west of Fresno kills a motorcyclist, Monday morning. The accident happened at about 6:40 AM.

Lawrence Sanchez of Kerman was riding his Harley Davidson west on Highway 180. He was following a Nissan Frontier, driven by Latoya Ashley Green of Fresno, who, officers report, was driving under the influence.

Green began to turn left toward southbound Monroe Avenue, then made a sharp turn toward northbound Monroe. At the same time, Sanchez attempted to pass the Nissan on the right. The motorcycle slammed into the right side of the Nissan, and Sanchez was thrown from his bike.

He died at the scene of the crash.

The Highway Patrol arrested Green for DUI, vehicular manslaughter and driving with a suspended license.

Big Rig Hits Power Poles in Bakersfield

November 1, 2011- A big rig crash causes hundreds of homes to be without power Tuesday afternoon, in Bakersfield.

The accident occurred on Highway 166 and Old River Road. The semi truck driver was driving his truck on the roadway when he lost control. He hit several power poles and flipped over, spilling his load of carrots onto the road.


The rig’s collision with the power poles left 240 PG&E customers powerless for an indefinite time period.

It is unknown why the driver lost control, or if he was injured in the crash.
