Bicyclist Seriously Hurt in a Crash in Merced

January 24, 2012- A biker was hit by a car in Merced, on Tuesday night.

Alecio Felix was riding his bike down Alpine Street, just east of G Street. The driver of a red 2005 Toyota did not see Alecio as she was also traveling down Alpine St, and ran into him.

Reportedly the driver told the police that she did not see Felix, who was riding in the middle of the street. He was wearing dark clothing, and did not have any lights on his bicycle.

Felix suffered major injuries and was airlifted to a Modesto hospital for treatment.

Car and Milk Truck Collision Kills One in Hanford

January 25, 2012- A fatal crash occurred in Hanford on Wednesday, west of Visalia. The accident happened at about 9:30 AM.

Ariel Marie Gieseman was driving a Nissan Sentra eastbound on Flint Avenue. With fog in the area, visibility was down to about 500 feet as Gieseman approached the Seventh Avenue intersection.

Dale Igou of Visalia, was driving a big rig carrying a tanker full of milk. He turned onto the road from a nearby dairy.

The semi almost completely entered the westbound lane on Flint Ave, when the Nissan slammed into the left-rear axle at a high rate of speed. The impact caused the Nissan to spin off onto an embankment.

Witnesses said that the Nissan was going at about 60-70 miles per hour, and Gieseman was holding something in her hand just before she hit the big rig.

Gieseman was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. No reports on whether Igou was hurt.

The crash is still under investigation, but fog was a big contributor to the incident.

School Bus and Minivan Collide in Fresno

January 27, 2012- A minivan crashed into a school bus in central Fresno, on Friday. The accident happened at about 8 AM.

The minivan's driver was traveling north on Broadway Street, when he ran the red light at the intersection of Broadway and Belmont Avenue. The van collided with a school bus that was westbound on Belmont.

The impact of the crash caused the bus to slam into a utility pole at the corner of the streets.

Students and the bus driver were not hurt in the collision. The minivan driver was injured and taken to the local hospital.

Big Rig Crashes and Spills Propane on Highway 178

January 21, 2012- A semi truck hauling 4,000 gallons of propane was involved in a crash on Highway 178, halfway between Bakersfield and Lake Isabella. The accident happened on Saturday, at about 3:00 PM.

A big rig lost control while traveling on Highway 178, near China Garden Road. It swerved and struck the side of the mountain, one mile west of Democrat Station.

The collision cause the rear-tank on the rig to spring a leak. The first arriving crews were able to isolate the hazard and contain it rather quickly. The highway was closed both directions to prevent any exposures, until the clean up was completed.

Car Broadsided on Akers and White Lane in Bakersfield

January 22, 2012- a crash in Bakersfield injures five people and slows down traffic for many hours. The accident occurred on Sunday, at about 8:00 AM.

A green Saturn Coupe was headed eastbound on White Lane, when it failed to stop at a red light. The Saturn broadsided a grey Pontiac G6, which was northbound on Akers Road.

Three people in the Pontiac suffered serious injuries. While two people in the Saturn suffered moderate injuries. All were taken to Kern Medical Center.

Police reported that they believed the driver of the Saturn was driving under the influence of alcohol.

January 22, 2012- A roll-over crash happened on Highway 43, east of Pixley. The accident occurred on Sunday, at about 6:52 PM.

Linda Morales, of Bakersfield, was driving a 1996 Jeep Cherokee, southbound on Highway 43 near Avenue 108.

Susan Slaterlamp, of Lemoore, was driving a 1993 Ford Explorer north on Hwy 43. The Ford drifted into the southbound lane of the highway, into the oncoming traffic.

Morales swerved to avoid a head-on collision with the Ford, but lost control of the Jeep and it flipped over several times before coming to rest on the train tracks that run parallel to the highway.

Morales suffered minor injuries and was taken to Tulare Regional Medical Center. Her three boys, who were occupants in the Jeep, were uninjured.

Slaterlamp was not hurt and her vehicle was undamaged.

The accident caused an Amtrak train and a freight train to be delayed for several hours, while they cleared the SUV from the tracks and inspected the railroad tracks for any damage.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. No citations were issued at the scene.

Roll-over Crash on Highway 99 in Bakersfield

Car Slams into Almond Orchard near Highway 99 in Pixley

January 18, 2012- an early morning crash occurred east of Highway 99, in Pixley. The accident happened on Wednesday, at about 5:12 AM.

A man driving a Honda Civic was traveling on Avenue 96, when he lost control of the car. The Civic slammed into a tree in an almond orchard that was at the side of the road.

Highway 99, near Avenue 48 was the scene of multiple vehicles spinning out of control, from black ice on the roadway.

CalTrans came and scraped the ice after the collision was cleared up.

Fog Related Crash in Hanford on Kansas Avenue

January 8, 2012- A fog related crash causes a three car pile-up, in Hanford, west of Visalia. The accident happened on Sunday, at about 12:25 AM.

Guillermo Miranda was traveling eastbound on Kansas Avenue, past 12th Avenue, when he tried to pass a slow moving Honda Accord in front of him.

Reports said that at the time of the crash, thick fog made it difficult to see past 500 feet.

As Miranda's Chevy moved into the opposing lane he saw a Honda Civic headed straight toward him. Miranda accelerated and tried to get around the Accord in time, but crashed into the front end of the Civic.

The impact of the collision caused the Chevy to spin around, and slammed into the left side of the Accord that he had been trying to pass.

Miranda suffered serious injuries, and his passenger, Angela Miranda, sustained moderate injuries. Both were taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center, in Visalia.

The three occupants of the Civic; Roman Martinez, Arnolfo Leon, and Maria Leon, of Delano, were also injured and taken to Community Regional Medical center, in Fresno.

The Accord's driver, Martha Calderon received minor injuries and sought medical attention on her own.

Truck Rolls into a Canal in Kings County

Keith Grimm was traveling down a dirt road, in his pick up truck, near a canal. He lost control of the vehicle. The truck flipped several times and came to rest on its roof in the canal. Where Grimm was thrown from the truck.

Woman Crashes into Wall after Trying to Evade the Police

January 12, 2012- A car chase ends in a crash in Tulare, on Thursday, at 12:45 AM.

Stella Castro, was leaving in a Chevy Tahoe, onto Tulare Avenue. She was under suspicion of drunk driving, and an officer attempted to pull her over. But the Chevy sped off and continued eastbound on Tulare.

The SUV ran a stop sign, and later a traffic light at Tulare and West Street, while the police pursued the vehicle.

A few minutes later Castro crashed in the 100 block of Sycamore Avenue. The Chevy hit a brick wall.

Castro was arrested for drunken driving and evading a peace officer.

Accident on Highway 180 near Peach Avenue in Fresno

Jeep Collides with Semi Truck on Highway 33

January 10, 2012- A fatal accident occurred on Highway 33, Tuesday night.

Jose Samuel Zazueta Beltran, of Gustine, was driving a Jeep northbound on Highway 33. He attempted to pass a big rig that was in front of him, near the intersection of Snyder Road. Beltran drove right into another semi truck, driven by Sabel Perez, of Fresno, headed south of the roadway.

The collision of the two vehicles caused the big rig to swerve off the road and into a power pole.

Beltran died at the scene of the crash.

A passenger in the Jeep, Fabian Savala, received moderate injuries. He was medi-flighted to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

Perez was not injured in the accident.

Motorcyclist Dies after Collision with SUV in Modesto

January 12, 2012- A motorcyclist died after a crash with a sport utility vehicle, in Modesto, on Thursday. The accident happened at 9:45 PM.

Aaron Glen Carrillo, was driving a 2005 Suzuki GSX-R on Tully Road, headed north. Gary Silva, was driving a black Nissan Pathfinder, southbound on Tully Rd.

Silva made a left turn onto West Union Avenue, as the motorcycle was coming into the intersection. The two vehicles collided, causing Carrillo to be thrown 30 feet off the bike. He landed over a fence, in a nearby backyard.

Carrillo was majorly hurt and taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries. It is reported that he was wearing a helmet.

Silva was not injured.

Deadly Crash in Kern River Canyon on Highway 178

January 13, 2012- A crash on Highway 178 near Bakersfield, leaves one man dead. The accident happened on Friday, at about 6:20 AM.

David Mitchell, of Weldon, was driving in a 1999 BMW with passenger Jeffrey Soulsberg Soulsbery, of Ridgecrest, on Highway 178, through Kern River Canyon. The single-vehicle collision occurred near Powerhouse No. 1, about one half mile past the mouth of the canyon.

Mitchell lost control of the car, and it veered off the roadway, and hit the canyon wall on the opposite side. The car then crashed down into the canyon, landing on its roof.

Mitchell suffered serious injuries and was taken to Kern Medical Center. He later died at the hospital.

Soulsbery received moderate injuries and also taken to Kern Medical.

Two Men Killed in Crash on Highway 140 East of Merced

January 14, 2012- Two men were killed in a head-on crash, on Highway 140, near Chase Ranch, northeast of Fresno. The accident occurred on Saturday at about 6:20 PM, east of the Merced-Mariposa county line.

William Ruport, of Mariposa, was driving a Mitsubishi truck west on Highway 140, with passenger Johnny Miller of Modesto. It is reported they were going 10 mph over the 45 mph speed limit.

As the pickup was coming around a curve, it crossed over the double yellow lines into the other lane on traffic. The truck slammed into a Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra, traveling east, driven by Daniel Fournier, of Mariposa.

Ruport and Miller were pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

Fournier sustained minor injuries and was taken to John C. Fremont Hospital in Mariposa. Fournier's passenger, Charles Heckinger of Roselle, Ill., suffered major injuries. He was airlifted to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

Semi Truck Slams into Side of an SUV in Fresno

An SUV, driven by Karla Santiesteban, was traveling south on Maple Avenue when she drove through the intersection of Maple and Jensen Avenue.

An eastbound big rig, driven by Wesley Nolan Ellis, of Tulare, ran the red light at the intersection and slammed into the SUV's passenger side.

The SUV's passenger, Teresa Santiesteban, suffered major injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center.

19 Year-Old Man Dies in Crash on Highway 43

January 12, 2012- A Corcoran man was killed in a crash Thursday, on Highway 43 near Laton, northwest of Visalia, at about 5:30 AM.

Andres Walle Escamilla, 19, was driving his Mazda Miata north, just past Cairo Avenue. He tried to pass a slow moving vehicle, and merged into oncoming traffic. He slammed head-on into a Nissan Altima, driven by Susan Pulido, of Merced.

The Miata continued on in the southbound lane, after colliding with the Nissan, and then hit a Honda Civic, driven by Alejandro Tapia, before finally stopping.

Escamilla was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Pulido suffered major injuries. She was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno for treatment.

Tapia was not injured in the collision.

The crash blocked traffic on the highway for over an hour before reopening.

Investigators are looking into how fast Escamilla was going and why he attempted to pass when other vehicles were in the southbound lane. The California Highway Patrol said that there was no fog, and the road was clear.

Drugs and alcohol are not considered to be factors in the crash.

January 10, 2012- An accident on Highway 99, in Bakersfield, causes a metal pipe to go through car's windshield, on Tuesday morning.

Marcus Kasprzyk, of Turlock, was driving on Highway 99 at about 65 mph. He was just south of Olive Drive, almost to his exit, when a pipe in the back of a black Dodge truck dislodged, and speared the windshield of his car.

The CHP reported that the pipe would've impaled Kasprzyk, had it not hit the steering wheel of his vehicle.

Kasprzyk suffered minor injuries from the crash and was taken to Mercy Hospital.

Pedestrian Hit While Crossing Tulare Avenue in Visalia

January 9, 2012- A woman was hit by a car as she was crossing the road in Visalia, on Monday, at about 5:40 PM.

The pedestrian, Charlene Garmon, was crossing Tulare Avenue, headed north, just past Garden Street, when she was struck by a 2001 Kia Rio, driven by Brett Hawley, that was traveling westbound.

She was seriously injured and taken first to Kaweah Delta Medical, and then Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. She died in the hospital from her injuries.

The 43 year-old male driver was not hurt in the accident.

Neal Patrick Oliver, of Ahwahnee, was driving a Toyota Camry on Highway 41, south of Road 426. While he was driving, Oliver reached down to pick up his ringing cell phone and drifted to the right shoulder of the highway. The Camry smashed into a parked big rig on the side of the road.

Oliver received minor injuries.

Strobel drove across three lanes of traffic and was hit by a Modesto City Schools bus. It is reported that the bus was traveling at 30 mph.

The driver of the bus, Alice Nelson of Ripon, and a 15 year-old passenger were not injured in the accident.

Semi Carrying Oranges Overturns on Highway 99 Off-ramp

January 6, 2012- A big rig accident occurred on the Highway 99 off-ramp, in Tulare, on Friday, just before 2 PM.

The semi truck, carrying 39 tons of oranges, was traveling southbound on Highway 99. The truck tried to exit the highway to Paige Avenue. The driver took the turn at too high of a speed, and lost control, causing the semi to overturn.

The big rig came to rest on the drivers side, and the trailer took down a traffic sign and part of the fencing near the off-ramp.

The driver received minor injuries in the crash, and was taken to Tulare Regional Medical for treatment.

A minivan, driven by Joyce Warrick, 84, was in the Savemart parking lot on West Noble Avenue. She was reversing from a handicapped parking spot, released the brake and hit the gas pedal. The white van crashed into the west entrance of the grocery store.

Warrick and her husband, 91, suffered minor injuries in the crash, and were taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center.

Savemart's doors were damaged and are blocked off until they can be repaired.

The passenger that was killed has been identified as Ricky Lee Lowe Jr.

The driver Kurt Knapp, of Turlock, was driving his Chevy Silverado on Santa Fe Grade. The truck drifted off the right shoulder of the roadway. Knapp lost control and the truck flipped in the swamp area west of the road.

December 31, 2011- A roll-over accident ended in one fatality, Saturday night, near Los Banos, northwest of Fresno. The crash occurred at about 7:30 PM.

Kurt Alan Knapp, of Turlock, was driving a 2002 Chevy Silverado truck northbound on Santa Fe Grade Road, just south of Gun Club Road, at about 55-60 mph.

The Chevy drifted off the road onto the right shoulder. Knapp over-corrected by turning the pickup to the left and lost control. The Chevy flipped over and came to rest on its roof in about 4 feet of water.

A 29 year-old passenger in the truck was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

Knapp sustained major injuries and had to be airlifted to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

Jennifer Dawn Irons, of Exeter, was driving a 1993 Chevy southbound on Highway 65, just north of Avenue 196.

Santiago Cortez Anaya, was driving a 2002 Ford on the highway and made an unsafe lane change.

Irons was unable to avoid Anaya's vehicle and the two cars collided.

Melissa Acuna, a passenger in the Ford, was seriously injured and taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center, in Visalia.

Irons received minor injuries and was also taken to Kaweah Delta Medical. While Anaya received minor injuries, but was not taken to the hospital.

Fatal Crash with Semi Truck on Copus Road South of Bakersfield

December 30, 2011- A two-vehicle accident ends in one death, Friday morning, north of the Grapevine, miles from Bakersfield. The crash occurred on Copus Road, just off Interstate 5.

A Chevy Impala, driven by Eugene Wilfred Lewis, of SeaTac Washington, had just exited from northbound I-5 onto Copus Road, when it swerved into a semi truck's path. The big rig, driven by Rafael Hernandez, of Lindsay, was traveling east on Copus Rd.

The Chevy hit the left side of the rig, and killed Lewis on impact.

A passenger in the Impala, Dona Mae Costello, of Des Moines, Washington, suffered serious injuries. She was airlifted to Kern Medical Center.

Highway 152 Crash Kills Two Fresno Residents

December 28, 2011- Two Fresno residents were killed in an accident involving two vehicles, on Highway 152 in Merced County, five miles east of the Santa Clara County border, northwest of Fresno. The crash occurred on Wednesday, at about 4:19 PM.

Mikael Mikaelian, 70, of Clovis, was driving a 2006 Toyota Camry eastbound on Hwy 152, at about 65 mph. He failed to make a right-hand curve correctly and traveled across the center median and into the oncoming westbound traffic.

Mikaelian slammed into a 2004 Ford F-250, driven by Theodore Haynish, 52, of Hollister.

Two passengers in the Camry; Edward Arshag Kalpakian, 84 and Anahid Kalpakian, 76, both from Fresno, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. It is reported that Edward was in the front passenger seat, while Anahid was seated in the back of the Camry.

Mikaelian suffered serious injuries and had to be medi-flighted to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

Haynish received minor injuries and said he would go to the doctor on his own, to receive treatment.

All parties were wearing their safety restraints. The CHP said that alcohol was not a factor in the accident.

Stolen Vehicle Crashes into Fire Hydrant in Fresno

December 27, 2011- The driver of a stolen vehicle was involved in a crash on Tuesday, in northwest Fresno.

Three teenagers, ages 13, 14, and 15, stole a car and went on a joy ride with it around town.

Ricardo Lopez the owner of the car, said he was warming it up Tuesday morning, and went inside his home to grab something. When he came back out his car was gone.

The 15 year-old suspect crashed the car into a fire hydrant, as they were driving down Marks Avenue, at the intersection of Marks and Holland Avenue. The impact of the accident knocked the fire hydrant off enough to send water shooting into the air.

The teens attempted to run away on foot after the collision, but police apprehended them soon after.

Merced Man Dies in Crash on M Street and University Drive

December 27, 2011- A Merced crash leaves one man dead and damages home, on Tuesday, just before 1:00 AM. The accident occurred at the intersection of University Drive and M Street.

Zachary Lemas, was driving a 2000 Chevy truck, with a 17 year-old passenger at reportedly a high rate of speed. They were traveling south on M Street.

While Garrett Christopher Smith-Fuentz was driving a gold 1988 Oldsmobile, eastbound on University Drive. The Oldsmobile drove into the intersection and the Chevy swerved to the right. A stop sign is posted on University Drive, but not on M Street.

The front of the Chevy slammed into the driver's side of the Oldsmobile. The force of the crash spun the Oldsmobile into a street light pole, and then it crashed into a home on the street corner.

Part of the pole fell through the roof of the home. It is reported that the occupants in the house were not hurt.

Smith-Fuentz was pinned inside his vehicle, and had to be removed by fire crews. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

Lemas and his passenger received minor injuries and taken to the hospital.

The police said alcohol was not a factor in the accident, but that speed was definitely an issue.

December 26, 2011- A Lake Isabella man was killed Monday afternoon, when his vehicle crashed into the Kern River Canyon, northeast of Bakersfield.

Valentine Steven Quintana, was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee at about 50 mph, on Highway 178, with his wife Jennifer Quintana. The driver lost control of the Cherokee, near Democrat Springs.

He hit the right dirt shoulder, and over-corrected. The Jeep overturned, and plunged down the canyon.

Valentine Quintana, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Jennifer Quintana suffered major injuries and was taken to Kern Medical Center. She is now in stable condition.

December 24, 2011- A Bakersfield man was fatally injured in a crash on South Union Avenue, late Saturday night. The accident occurred north of Old Yard Drive.

The 27 year-old driver, Ariel Paredez, was traveling south down Union Avenue when he allowed his Toyota to travel onto the right shoulder of the road, where it struck a concrete curb.

The man lost control of the vehicle, and it hit a building and continued south and hit another building, which took the roof off the Toyota.

The Toyota then crashed through a chain link fence into a tow yard, where hit slammed into three parked vehicles before it crashed through another fence where it finally came to rest.

The driver was taken to the hospital, where he was died. A passenger in the car, Leno Paredez, was injured but refused to be taken to the hospital.

Sydney Gee, was driving north on Del Rey Avenue,in his Chevy Malibu. He stopped at the stop sign, at the intersection of Del Rey Ave. and Jensen Avenue.

When Gee pulled into the intersection, he was hit by a Jeep Wrangler, driven by Robert Gomes, of Fresno. Gomes was traveling east on Jensen at about 45 to 50 mph.

Gee was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

December 17, 2011- An arrest has been made in connection to the hit-and-run accident that happened on Saturday, in Fresno, that killed a wheelchair bound man.

The victim, Darin Gardner, was hit by two cars, as he was crossing Blackstone Avenue.

The police were able to identify the drivers of both vehicles from witnesses reports.

Jonathan Jason Howard was arrested, and booked on suspicion for felony hit-an-run. It is believed that he was the driver of the first vehicle that hit Gardner.

December 21, 2011- A pedestrian died after being hit by a car, in Bakersfield, Wednesday, at about 6:30 PM.

Shelly Keith, was crossing in the crosswalk at the intersection of White Lane and Gosford Road. When Carlo Cordero, the driver of a Ford Excursion, was turning from Gosford Road onto White Lane at 5 mph, and ran into Keith.

Shelly Keith was taken to the hospital after suffering major injuries. She died 30 minutes later in the hospital.

The police report that Cordero was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

67 year-old Ida Perez, of Patterson, was driving a 2003 Toyota Highlander southbound on Highway 33, near Marshall Road. Silvia Moreno, also of Patterson, was a passenger in the vehicle.

Kendall Schene, of Modesto, was driving a 2004 Chevy Suburban. She was traveling west on Marshall Road, where she ran a stop sign at the intersection of Marshall and Hwy 33.

The Chevy's front-end hit the drivers side of the Highlander.

Perez was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. While Moreno suffered serious injuries and was taken to Doctors Medical Center, in Modesto.

Schene suffered moderate injuries, but refused medical treatment.

The Chevy collided head-on with a Ford Focus that was headed north on Ben Maddox.

The two people in the Silverado, and the driver of the Ford suffered neck and back injuries. They were taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center for treatment.

December 14, 2011- An update to the fatal crash that happened in Bakersfield on Truxtun Avenue, Wednesday, at about 1:04 PM. The accident happened between a Cadillac and a medical transport van.

Both wheelchair passengers have been reported to have been securely fastened, with the chairs strapped down, and the passengers secured in seat belts. One of them was killed and the other majorly injured.

Accident on Highway 152 Results in Two Girls Seriously Hurt

December 19, 2011- Two girls from Fresno suffered major injures in a crash Monday, on Highway 152. The accident happened west of Highway 99, in Madera County, at about 6:30 AM.

Carey Johnson, of Fresno, was driving a car that the two girls were passengers in. Johnson was traveling west on Highway 152, when he made a U-turn and collided with another car driven by Danny Swenson, of Clovis.

Swenson was also westbound on Highway 152, and was unable to stop in time before crashing with Johnson's car.

The two girls received serious injuries, and Johnson minor injuries. They were taken to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno.

Swenson was not injured in the accident.

Kern County Deputy Hits Two Pedestrians in Oildale

December 16, 2011- Two pedestrians are dead after being hit by Kern County Sheriff's patrol car, in Oildale, minutes from Bakersfield, at about 7:30 PM Friday.

The pedestrians, Daniel Hiler and Chrystal Jolley Clevenger, were pushing a small motorcycle near the intersection of Norris Road and Diane Drive.

A Kern County Sheriff's deputy, Deputy Swearengin, was responding to a call, and driving west on Norris Rd. Reportedly he was driving about 60 mph, and did not have his lights on. Swearengin hit Hiler and Jolley as they were crossing the darkened street.

It is reported that Hiler and Jolley were not crossing the road in a crosswalk.

The man and woman were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Swearengin suffered minor injuries.

The CHP have said that they are investigating the accident and it could take months before it is complete.

Jolley leave behind three children, and Hiler leaves behind a wife and two kids.

December 16, 2011- a semi truck accident occurred on a Highway 99 overpass, near Visalia, Friday at about 6:30 PM.

A Jeep Cherokee was driving east on Avenue 120, when the driver was blinded by heavy fog. The 49 year-old driver hit the big rig, as the truck was turning onto Avenue 120.

The CHP reported that the Jeep was traveling at 45 mph, too fast for the foggy conditions.

The driver of the Jeep was injured and hospitalized. The semi truck driver was not hurt.

Madera Man Died in an Accident on Highway 145

December 16, 2011- A man from Madera, north of Fresno, died after a head-on crash Friday afternoon, on Highway 145.

The 47 year-old man was riding in a Dodge Shadow, headed west, when the car slammed into a pickup truck that turned right in front of it.

The driver of the Dodge Shadow suffered moderate injuries. The man, who was a passenger, was not wearing a seat belt, and died at the scene of the accident.

The two people that were in the truck, received minor to moderate injuries.

Wheelchair Bound Man Killed While Trying to Cross Blackstone Avenue

December 17, 2011- A hit-and-run accident leaves a man in a wheelchair dead, in Fresno, Saturday, at about 7:45 PM.

The wheelchair bound man was crossing Blackstone Avenue, between Sierra and Herndon. He was not in a crosswalk while crossing, and it is reported that the lights in that part of the street were not clearly lit.

The man was struck by one vehicle, that has been described as a dark colored compact car. The man was thrown from his wheelchair after the first car hit him, and was struck by another vehicle, that could be a tan-colored Chevy Tahoe SUV.

Both drivers did not stop after hitting the man. They now face charges of felony hit-and-run, even though the man in the wheelchair was at fault.

Unknown Man Seriously Injured in Crash near Bakersfield

December 12, 2011- An unknown driver of a stolen car, was seriously hurt in a crash in Bakersfield, Monday at about 1 PM. The accident happened near Shafter, on Magnolia Avenue, just north of Lerdo Highway.

The driver was behind the wheel of a green, 2000 Honda, when he lost control of the car. The Honda swerved into an almond orchard, and flipped several times through the trees. It is reported that the impact nearly split the dashboard in half.

The victim was pinned in the vehicle and had to be medi-flighted to Kern Medical Center for treatment. He is still in critical condition.

Officers reported that the car had been called in as stolen, and the man was not carrying any identification. At that time they could not fingerprint him, because he was so badly hurt.

The bicyclist was seriously injured and taken to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno, where he later died.

Jorge Martinez, of Hanford, was driving a 1994 Ford Thunderbird, westbound on Grangeville Boulevard, near the intersection of 15th Avenue and Grangeville.

A 2003 Jeep Cherokee traveling east on Grangeville Blvd., at about 50-55 mph, drifted into the westbound lane and slammed into the Thunderbird.

December 14, 2011- One person was killed and two others injured in a crash, on Wednesday in Bakersfield, at about 1:04 PM.

An older woman was driving a silver Cadillac east on Truxtun Avenue, when she tried to turn north onto Westwind Drive. She pulled right into the path of a medical transportation van that was taking three passengers west on Truxtun. Two of those passengers were wheelchair bound.

The impact from the collision caused the van to leave the road and run up into a disabled access ramp, finally coming to rest after hitting a tree outside of Camino Real restaurant.

A woman passenger died in an ambulance as it was on its way to Kern Medical Center. Another woman from the van suffered serious injuries and was also taken to Kern Medical. It is reported that she is in critical condition. Both women were the ones that were in wheelchairs.

The woman who was driving the van, and a male passenger were not injured in the accident.

Gregory Paul King was walking across Panama Lane outside a marked crosswalk, when he was hit by, what appeared to be, a dark colored GMC or Chevy truck headed east on Panama. The collision happened between South Union Avenue and Cottonwood Road.

Authorities released a surveillance photo of the suspects vehicle. The truck possibly has a tool box inthe bed, and should be damaged in the front headlights.

Luis Mooney, was driving west on Reserve Road at a high speed and slammed head-on into another vehicle, driven by Brent Pierson, after Mooney's vehicle had crossed the center line.

Mooney was seriously injured and had to be airlifted to Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield.

The 36 year-old Hanford man, was driving a Ford Thunderbird west on Grangeville Boulevard. While a Jeep Cherokee, driven by Victoria Mavricakis, of Hanford, was traveling east on Grangeville, west of 15th Avenue, at about 50-55 mph.

For reasons unknown, Mavricakis's Jeep drifted into the westbound lane and hit the driver's side of the Thunderbird.

The Hanford man was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The CHP reported that alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the collision. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Highway 65 Crash Ends Fatally for a Lindsay Man

December 13, 2011- A traffic accident on Highway 65, south of Lindsay, just miles from Visalia, ends fatally for one man, Tuesday at about 11 AM.

A 79 year-old Lindsay man was driving a Ford Ranger truck westbound on Avenue 208. He slowed at the intersection of Ave. 208 and Highway 65, then started to cross the roadway, before completely stopping at the stop sign.

He was broadsided by a Boulder Creek Rockery truck after moving into the intersection. The semi truck was traveling northbound on Hwy 65.

The Ford's driver died at the scene of the crash.

Lin Jones, the driver of the semi, and his brother Jack Jones, both from Tulare, received minor injuries and were taken to Sierra View District Hospital, in Porterville.

Arturo Lara, was driving a Chevy Colorado eastbound on Hwy 190, when he passed another car and crashed into the back of a Ford Taurus that was stopped at a stop sign. The Taurus yielded at the intersection of Westwood Road, and Highway 190.

The impact from the accident, pushed the Taurus, driven by Alex Lucio of Porterville, into the intersection, where it collided with a Ford pickup truck. The Ford was driven by Louis Gurrola of Terra Bella.

Visalia Unified School Bus Hit on Akers Street

December 15, 2011- A school bus crash occurred Thursday, in Visalia, at about 7:30 AM.

The bus, driven by Robert Velardez, was headed north on Akers Street, for Cottonwood Creek Elementary. Velardez had just picked up four school kids about 100 yards before the accident happened.

Sandra Serpa, driving a 2003 Lincoln Navigator, was southbound on Akers St., when she turned right in front of the Visalia Unified School District bus.

Serpa said that she was looking at a friend's home as she turned her SUV east onto West Nellis Court, and didn't see the bus.

The four students on the bus were checked out by paramedics, and were found to be uninjured.

Serpa suffered minor injuries, but did not go to the hospital. Velardez was not hurt in the accident.

Big Rig Hits Parked Cars After Driver Has Heart Attack

December 9, 2011- A man driving a semi truck hit five parked vehicles after having a heart attack, on Friday, near Madera, north of Fresno. The crash occurred at about 10:30 PM.

Jimmy Brewer of Madera, was towing two double trailers behind his rig at about 10 mph, on the private property at Road 27 1/2, south of Avenue 12. He went into cardiac arrest and slumped over the steering wheel.

The big rig slammed into five parked, vehicles, that were unoccupied, and stopped against one of the cars.

A co-worker was the one to find Brewer in his semi truck, unconscious. Brewer was taken to Madera Community Hospital. It is reported that he was in critical, but stable condition.

December 11, 2011- A man from San Jose was killed Sunday on Interstate 5 after a crash flipped his vehicle, near Buttonwillow, west of Bakersfield. The accident occurred at about 1 PM.

Lope Cruz Fuentes, of San Jose, was northbound on I-5, south of Buena Vista Road, just north of Highway 223, in his Mitsubishi SUV. Fuentes drifted into the center median of the freeway. He tried to drive back onto the highway and over-corrected, causing the SUV to roll several times.

Fuentes died at the scene of the accident. Three passengers in the Mitsubishi suffered moderate to major injuries and were taken to the hospital.

Teenager Killed in Accident on Highway 99 near Earlimart

December 9, 2011- A 19 year-old woman was killed Friday at about 11 PM, near Earlimart, south of Visalia, on Highway 99.

Yvette Gonzalez, of Kerman, was driving a 1998 Chevy Cavalier southbound on Highway 99, just north of Avenue 56. She allowed her car to drift into the right lane where it side swiped another vehicle, driven by Leonardo Barajas, of Fresno.

It is unclear what kind of vehicle Barajas was driving. Different reports claim it was either a 2005 Volvo, or a semi truck.

After hitting the other vehicle, the Cavalier went out of control, into the right shoulder of the roadway, smashing into a metal guardrail. Gonzalez was not wearing her safety restraint, and was thrown from the Chevy Cavalier.

She suffered major injuries and was taken by ambulance to Delano Regional Medical Center. She was later pronounced dead in the hospital

Gladays Angle Angel, a passenger in the Chevy, was wearing her seat belt and suffered only minor injuries.

Barajas was also wearing his seat belt and was uninjured in the crash.

December 1, 2011- A mother and her two kids were trapped inside a car during a high speed chase, that ended in a crash. The accident occurred on Highway 99 near Bakersfield, Thursday night.

LaJohn Richardson was driving his Cadillac, with passenger Sheila Early, and her sons' Jeremiah and Terryion, and also her brother. As they were leaving Tulare to head home to Fresno, Richardson drove south onto Highway 99, instead of north.

A Kern County Sheriff's deputy clocked the Cadillac at about 100 mph, and tried to pull him over. Deputies broke off the chase, but Richardson just kept going.

Richardson lost control of his vehicle and flipped several times on Hwy 99 near a dairy.

Richardson suffered major injuries and was medi-flighted to Kern Medical Center.

Early, her two boys, and her brother were also taken to the hospital for treatment.

The truck started to roll as the two passengers tried to get out. Both women were dragged until both front right and left tires pinned them to the ground.

A big rig hauling a form of sulfuric acid overturned on the highway near Parkfield Grade, causing the liquid to leak onto the roadway.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident. The truck driver was not injured.

The roads were closed in both directions, until crews could come in and clean up the spill.

Pedestrian Hit on Cedar Avenue in Fresno

December 4, 2011- A pedestrian was hit by a car, in Fresno, just before 6 PM, Sunday.

The unidentified woman was walking across Cedar Avenue, near Shields Avenue. Officers reported that she was not in a cross walk at the time of the accident. The driver of a Saturn car did not see the woman as she crossed the street and hit her.

The pedestrian suffered major injuries and was reported to be in critical condition.

The driver was not cited in the crash.

Two Modesto Men Die on Highway 4 in Crash With a Big Rig

December 1, 2011- Two men from Modesto died in an accident Thursday, on Highway 4, northwest of Fresno. The accident occurred shortly after 12 PM.

Matthew Richard Burkett, and his passenger, Walter Alexander White, were in a 2006 Chevy pickup truck, headed east on Highway 4, east of Discovery Bay.

A Waterford man, driving a semi truck with two trailers full of dirt, was also headed east on the highway. He prepared to make a left turn into a private driveway. The big rig was being followed by a few other rigs with trailers.

Burkett noticed the slower traffic ahead and moved the Chevy into the oncoming lane to pass all the big rigs, right when the first big rig began to turn left into the driveway.

Burkett tried to stop before hitting the semi truck, but was not able to in time. The impact of the crash pushed both vehicles off the road and into an irrigation canal.

The semi truck came to rest on its left side, but the driver was able to get out of the vehicle.

The Chevy flipped over and came to rest on its roof, under the water in the canal.

Burkett and White were not able to get out of the truck, and died at the scene of the collision.

The big rig driver was not injured.

The CHP report that drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the accident. The incident is still being investigated.

Fatal Crash on Highway 198 near Three Rivers

December 10, 2011- A man was killed on Saturday near Three Rivers, east of Visalia, in a car crash that happened at about 10 PM.

A 1998 Saturn, driven by a Wildomar man, was headed east on Highway 198, east of Craig Ranch Road. The driver made an unsafe turn, that caused him to loose control of his car.

The Saturn drove off the highway, hit sign posts, and into a dirt embankment. The impact of the car with the embankment caused it to flip over.

The driver was not wearing his seat belt, and died at the scene of the accident.

Donald Payne, of Sequoia National Park, sustained minor injuries. He was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center, in Visalia.
