July 28, 2014- A multi-vehicle accident, involving a big rig, took place on Interstate 5, in Kern County. The semi truck collision happened on Monday, at about 2:30 PM.
Eliu Perez Hernandez, of Nogales, Arizona, was driving a tractor-trailer northbound on I-5, near the Highway 99 connector. The semi truck turned left suddenly and hit a guardrail, then swerved back to the right. This caused the big rig to cross both lanes of the freeway and smash into a 2002 Mercedes, driven by Chris Lam, of Arcadia.
The Mercedes car spun out and ended on the right shoulder of the roadway. The semi drove through the guardrail, off the highway, and through a fence, where it finally hit an oil pumping rig in a field east of Interstate 5.
Chris Lam sustained minor injuries, and his passenger Huyen Vo Thanh Le, of San Jose, is reported to not have been injured. No reports on the condition of Eliu Hernandez.
