Vehicle Accident On Highway 178, Causes Fire, in Kern County

On Wednesday, July 1, 2015, a vehicle collision sparked a fire through Kern River Canyon, on Highway 178.  The Kern County car accident took place at 4:30 AM.

A sedan was involved in the crash, which occurred about 4 miles east of the mouth of the canyon, on Highway 178.  The automobile involved in the collision, traveled 50 feet down the steep terrain on the north side of the highway.

Two victims were in the sedan.  They both suffered injuries; moderate and minor, and were taken to Kern Medical Center, in Bakersfield.

A brush fire caused by the incident, rapidly spread up the hillside.  Firefighters were able to put out the flames after 50 acres burned.

The cause of the collision and fire are under investigation.
