October 16, 2011- A crash early Sunday morning between a bus and car ends in fatality on Highway 190 near Porterville, 30 minutes from Visalia.
The crash occurred at about 2:15 AM. The bus was stopped at a red light on eastbound Hwy 190 and Jaye Street. A 1998 Dodge Neon, driven by Francisco Luna of Strathmore, rear-ended the bus. The Neon was traveling at a high rate of speed and caught fire after it collided.
A passenger in the Dodge, Tashia Laird of Porterville, was pulled from the burning car, but died at the scene of the accident.
Luna and another passenger, Omar Ibarra of Lindsay, received major injuries. They were medi-flighted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. They are both expected to survive.
Five passengers on the bus complained of pain, and were taken to Sierra View District Hospital to be treated.
Officers believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
