November 29, 2011- A big rig accident on Interstate 5, south of Bakersfield, closed a highway exit while crews removed the wreckage Tuesday.
The semi truck with double trailers was driving northbound on I-5. The front trailer was hauling 20 55 gallon drums of an unknown substance. While traveling on the highway at the Grapevine Road exit, the semi overturned after the brakes caught on fire. Some of the drums leaked all over the road after the crash.
The hazmat team was called in to clean up the mess. The substance was identified as nontoxic enough to turn the clean up over to Kern County crews.
