Car Collision on Maricopa Highway in Kern County Ends in Fatality

June 23, 2014- A fatal car accident happened on Monday, in Kern County.  The vehicle collision took place on Maricopa Highway, west of Old River Road, near Bakersfield.

The driver of a red Honda car, Benjamin Grajeda, 19 years old, of Lebec, was headed east on Highway 166.  He attempted to pass eastbound traffic on the shoulder of the roadway.  The Honda swerved out of control, and smashed into a Dodge work truck that was in the westbound lane.

Grajeda was prounounced dead at the scene of the incident.

The driver of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries.
