Interstate 5 Crash Leads to a Double Fatality

September 24, 2011- A 22-year-old man and his 21-year-old female passenger died early Saturday morning, when they crashed head-on with another vehicle on Interstate 5, south of the Kern County, Kings County border.

The man, who was from Oceanside, was driving a 2000 Ford Explorer northbound on I-5, just after midnight, when he drove through the center median and into the southbound lanes of I-5.

The driver crashed head-on with Antonio Romero, of Los Angeles, who was driving a 2005 Mitsubishi truck. Both vehicles overturned and ended up stopping on the southbound shoulder.

Romero was taken to Kern Medical Center, in Bakersfield, by ambulance to be treated for moderate injuries.

The driver of the SUV and his passenger, who was from Vista, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names have not been released at this time.

It is reported that all were wearing seatbelts. The crash is under investigation.
