Oversized Tractor-Trailer Causes Crash on I-5

September 21, 2011- Two semi trucks crashed causing traffic to back up Wednesday afternoon on northbound Interstate 5. The accident occurred at about 2:20 PM, on I-5 north of the Fort Tejon on ramp, south of Bakersfield.

An oversize-load tractor-trailer, with a 130,000 pound compressor on the trailer, lost control and hit another big rig at a high rate of speed. The wide load trailer landed on the freeway shoulder.

The tractor section of the truck jack-knifed in the middle of the lanes, and ended up resting on the median safety wall. The truck then started a one acre grass fire in the median vegetation.

One driver received minor injuries and refused treatment. There were no other reported injuries.

Several lanes of the freeway were closed for a few hours, while cranes removed the big rigs. The CHP is investigating this collision.
