November 17 Highway 41 accident in Madera County Update

On November 17 there was a fatal accident on Highway 41 in Madera County. It was caused by a Hyundai driven by an 85-year-old Coarsegold woman. The woman lost control of the vehicle and hit a boulder. The car landed in the lane of the opposing traffic after rolling several times. Another vehicle, driven by Donald Schmidt, was involved. Schmidt saw the car rolling towards him, slammed on his brakes, but was unable to stop in time. The Hyundai landed on top of his truck. The Coarsegold woman and her 90-year-old passenger, also of Coarsegold were killed. Schmidt and his passenger, 74-year-old Alta Schmidt were taken to Community Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries. The accident occurred on a stretch of road known as Rocky Cut. Rocky Cut has been the scene of many deadly accidents over the years.
