November 9: Two men killed on the shoulder of Interstate 5

On November 9 two men were killed on Interstate 5 when they were trying to refuel a disabled vehicle on the shoulder of the road and a car hit them. A 23-year-old man was traveling on I-5 near Manning Avenue when he pulled his car over to the shoulder of tha road and stopped. A 21-year-old man from Kerman was working in a field nearby and came to help him. As the men refueled the vehicle, a Fresno woman, Cynthia Merritt hit the men and the vehicle from behind. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Merritt was taken to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries. The passenger in the parked car was unhurt.
