February 9, 2012- A Los Banos man was killed in a crash, on Highway 33. The accident happened Thursday morning.
Jon Darren Carter was riding a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle, southbound on Highway 33, just north of the Cottonwood Road intersection.
A semi truck, driven by Ryan Vanderhelm, of Modesto, slowed and signaled to make a left turn. Traffic behind the big rig slowed, but Carter crossed over the double yellow lines to pass the other cars.
Carter hit the brakes on his bike, and swerved to the left to avoid hitting the side of the turning truck, but he was not able to avoid the collision.
He crashed into the side of the Peterbilt semi, and died at the scene.
Vanderhelm was not hurt in the accident.
