Fatality After SUV Collision on Interstate 5 near Coalinga

May 10, 2014- A singular vehicle accident leaves one dead on I-5, in Fresno County.  The incident took place north of Coalinga, Saturday evening.

The driver of a 2000 Ford Expedition was traveling north on Interstate 5, near Derrick Avenue.  The San Jose woman lost control of the SUV after the vehicle drifted to the right.  She over-corrected after the Ford nearly left the road.  The vehicle spun out and swerved across the northbound lanes of the freeway.  The Expedition came to rest in the center divide, on its side.

There were three people in the SUV.  The woman driver and a male passenger in the front suffered minor injuries.  They were taken by ambulance to Coalinga Regional Medical Center.  The third person was a passenger in the back of the Ford, who was not wearing a seat belt.  That passenger sustained major injuries and died at the scene of the crash.
