Highway 178 Head-on Collision in Kern County

May 18, 2014- A two vehicle collision closes State Route 178 for an hour, in Kern County.  The accident occurred at the mouth of the canyon in Bakersfield, California, on Sunday.  The incident happened at about 11:14 AM.

CHP Officers reported that the driver of a Toyota Corolla who was suspected of drinking and driving, was traveling down the wrong side of Highway 178, at about 40 mph.  The Toyota collided head-on with a Jeep Cherokee.

Police arrested the driver of the Toyota.  Two people in the Jeep suffered moderate injuries.  They were taken to San Joaquin Community Hospital for treatment.

The highway was closed for about an hour while officials investigate the crash.
