Fatality on Southbound I-5 Near Coalinga

September 2, 2011- A crash on southbound Interstate 5, involving a solo vehicle occurred Friday morning, near Coalinga, an hour from Visalia. The accident claimed the life of one person.

The unidentified victim was pinned underneath a blue Ford Taurus, on southbound I-5, at 6:06 AM, just north of El Dorado Avenue.

Witnesses reported that prior to the accident, they saw the Taurus swerving from side to side. The CHP said the victim probably fell asleep at the wheel.

December 9 I-5 accident kills one

On December 9 Nicholas Biello of Sun Valley was killed in a wrongful death accident on I-5 near Coalinga in Fresno County. Reportedly Biello was a passenger in a van driven by Barbra Crown. The van was on I-5 near Hudson Avenue near Coalinga when it overturned and Biello was thrown from the vehicle even though he was wearing a seat belt. He died at the scene of the accident. Crown was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter. No further details regarding the cause of the accident or other injuries are available at this time.

April 2 I-5 accident near Coalinga

On April 5 five people were injured in an accident on I-5 near Coalinga. Reportedly Brian Retz was driving northbound on I-5 when a sedan suddenly changed lanes in front of him. He braked and swerved right to avoid the sedan. Then he swerved left into the median and the Suburban he was driving overturned. Four people were thrown from the vehicle. The driver of the sedan fled the scene of the accident. All four of the passengers, Matthew Smithson, Sarah Novak, Jenny Novak, and Hunter Retz were minors. All four were taken to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries.

March 25 I-5 accident critically injures one

On March 25 on person was put in critical condition due to an accident between an SUV and a big rig on I-5 north of Coalinga. Reportedly the SUV collided with the big rig just north of Highway 145 then rolled over the edge of the interstate. One person was pinned in his vehicle. December 14 I-5 accident near Coalinga kills one

On December 14 a San Fernando man was killed when he was thrown from his vehicle during an accident on I-5 near Coalinga. The accident occurred around 2 pm south of Jayne Avenue. The man, reportedly, was not wearing a seat belt. He was air lifted to Community Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The man was driving northbound on I-5 when he swerved to avoid hitting a semi truck. This caused his van to roll over in the center median.
