A green, 2003 Honda Accord, driven by Leonel Lopez, was traveling west on Avenue 9, near Road 23, where tractor spray rigs had gathered on either side of the road. Lopez moved to the middle of the road to avoid the tractors.

The Honda hit three farm workers that were standing in the middle of the road. Authorities reported that the Accord was moving at about 60 miles per hour. It was said that the bright lights from the big rigs made it difficult to see the farmers.
One of the workers, Adrian Ayon Guzman, 30 years old, died at the scene of the accident. Alejandro Carrillo, suffered major injuries, and David Meza suffered minor injuries.
