The driver of a green Ford Crown Victoria, Dontrell Collins was traveling west on Rosedale Highway, at a high rate of speed. As he neared Verdugo Lane the Ford smashed into the back of a white compact automobile.
The impact of the collision caused the compact car to burst into flames with the driver and two passengers trapped inside. Witnesses of the crash were able to get the victims out of the vehicle, but the driver and one of the passengers were fatally injured and died at the scene.
The other female passenger suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The Bakersfield Police reported that Dontrell Collins was driving under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and taken to Kern County Jail.
