August 18, 2014- A multi-vehicle crash injures one man, after his SUV collides with two big rigs, in Merced County. The semi truck accident occurred east of Turlock, on Monday, at approximately 10:29 AM.
The driver of a Sport Utility Vehicle was headed west on East Avenue, when his SUV drifted into the oncoming lane. The vehicle clipped one tractor-trailer, and then spun out. The SUV then smashed into another big rig, driven by Jeff Geigle, near the Pepper Street intersection.
The SUV soon caught fire after the collision. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle before it was engulfed in flames.
The young man sustained injuries to his nose, head, and hand. He was taken to a Modesto hospital for treatment.
The CHP reported that early investigations indicate that the SUV's driver fell asleep at the wheel.
