Multiple Big Rig Accident on Interstate 5 Grapevine in Kern County

Central California Car Collision Attorney John L. Rozier has the following report; On Tuesday, October 28, 2014, a semi truck collision closes down the Grapevine.  The multi-vehicle accident took place on I-5 north, in Kern County, at about 11 PM.

A 38 year old driver, from Glendale Arizona, was traveling northbound at approximately 90-100 miles per hour, in a 1999 Kenworth tractor-trailer.  The semi truck was on I-5 between Fort Tejon and Grapevine Loop, when he smashed into the rear of a Freightliner big rig.

The collision caused hazardous materials to spill from the Freightliner onto the freeway.  The Kenwroth continued down the highway and hit two more semis before the trailer portion of the truck came loose and blocked the lanes of the interstate.

The cab of the truck still drove further down the roadway, until it hit the right shoulder and crashed.  This caused a brush fire at the side of the highway.  The fire burned several acres along the shoulder before it was contained.

North Interstate 5 was closed for four hours after the accident.  Initial reports say that no one was injured in the incident.

Please call if you would like us to investigate this accident. The event data recorders with the airbag modules may have recorded the vehicle speeds. And we can look into whether there was a malfunction in the big rig. Our firm is located in Visalia on Caldwell Ave., north of Bakersfield.
