The CHP reported that the crash occurred when a pickup truck, driven by Carrie Rae Gilliard, was traveling north on Palomas Road. The pickup ran a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 58 and Palomas.
The pickup truck crashed into a freight-liner crane, driven by a 21 year old Bakersfield man. The impact of the collision sent both the truck and the big rig into concrete walls and a power pole. They finally came to rest in a homeowner's yard.
Gilliard, and her passenger, 41 year old Joshua Shane Shepherd, were both partially ejected from the pickup. They were both pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The crane operator was not injured in the incident.
