A white or silver sedan was traveling in the slow lane on northbound Highway 99, near Westside Boulevard. The automobile swerved into the center lane and ran into a Nissan Xterra, driven by a Laton man; Maninder Singh, 22 years of age.
The Nissan flipped over onto the grass center divide of the freeway, and into the southbound lanes. Two passengers in the backseat of the vehicle; Javir Kaur, 45 years old, and Nirbhai Singh, 53 years old, were thrown from the vehicle.
Kaur was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. Kewal Singh, 72, was the front passenger in the Xterra. He also was pronounced dead at the scene.
Nirbhai Singh was flown, by helicopter, to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, having suffered major injuries. Maninder Singh also sustained serious injuries and was taken to Memorial Medical Center, in Modesto.
All four people in the Xterra were family members from the town of Laton, in Fresno County.
The silver sedan continued driving north after the crash with Singh. The sedan then hit a second vehicle, a Nissan Versa, driven by Sedra Nadine Sigarroa, of Merced. That vehicle swerved into the south lanes of the highway, but did not roll over.
Sigarroa was not injured in the crash.
The hit and run driver is still at large, at this time. Authorities are on the lookout for him or her.
While our
condolences go out to the friends and family of the victims, we recognize that
no monetary sum can ease the pain and loss felt after a tragedy such as this.
However, just monetary compensation can help ease the burden of medical bills,
final expenses, and help support any dependents left behind by the deceased.
