An update to the fatal vehicle crash that took place on Saturday, February 21, 2015, that was caused by a suspected drunk driver. The car collision happened in Fresno, at around 9:20 PM, on Friant Road.
A silver pickup truck, driven by Hector Castillo-Pichardo, was headed north on Friant Road, with passengers Oscar Felix Verga, and Jose Flores. Officers reported that Pichardo was driving while under the influence. The pickup truck drove through a traffic light that was red, at Copper River Drive, and ran into a white Acura Sport Utility Vehicle.
The Acura SUV, which was driven by Molly Griffin, 23, was turning left onto Friant when the truck smashed into it.
Griffin died at the scene of the collision. Her passenger, Emily Krieghoff, 23, sustained major injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment of a lacerated aorta, and fractured hip. She is still recovering in the ICU, but is in stable condition.
Verga also died because of the accident, at the hospital. He leaves behind a wife and three children.
Flores was injured, but his condition is unknown. While Pichardo received minor injuries and was arrested at the scene. He has been charged with felony DUI and possible vehicular manslaughter.
