The driver of a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, Daniel Scott Campos, was headed south on Highway 165, near Santa Fe Grade. The Pontiac swerved into the other lane and sideswiped a 2003 Freightliner semi truck, that was northbound on the highway. The big rig was driven by Kanwer Waraich, of Ceres.
After the Grand Prix hit the semi, it spun out and another Freightliner, driven by Santiago Sandoval, of Modesto, smashed into it. Sandoval's tractor-trailer went off the road, and ran into a telephone pole, then caught fire.
Daniel Campos sustained major injuries and was airlifted to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment.
Waraich and Sandoval are reported to not have been injured.
