November 17 Highway 41 accident in Madera County happened on a deadly stretch of road

The accident on Highway 41 in Madera County on November 17 that claimed the lives of two Coarsegold residents happened on what many consider to be a deadly stretch of road. The stretch of road known as Rocky Cut sees 20,000 cars pass through every day. According to Cal Trans traffic on Highway 41 has increased by 70 percent in the last 8 years. That is not only local traffic, but also visitors to Yosemite National Park and Chuckchansi Casino. The Highway Patrol estimates that around 50 people have been killed on the stretch of Highway 41 between Fresno County Line and Yosemite National Park in the last 6 years. Just Last August 3 women were killed in a head on collision that occurred just south of Tuesday's accident. Many claim that the road is safe, it is the drivers who need to be more cautious.
