Merced Man Killed in Crash on Highway 65 Near Porterville

March 1, 2014- A car crash ends in a fatality Saturday morning on Highway 65, south of Strathmore, and north of Porterville.

A 27 year old man from Merced, was driving southbound on Highway 65, near Avenue 184, when his 2004 Chevy vehicle drifted into the other lane and onto the east shoulder.  The driver over-corrected, and drove back into the other lanes, off the road, and down into an embankment on the west side of the highway.

The car struck a concrete pipe and a few orchard trees before flipping over.

The California Highway Patrol report that the man was not wearing a seat belt, and he was thrown from his overturned Chevy, and was killed in the collision, from his injuries.

March 6 Strathmore head-on collision

On March 6 there was an accident on Road 224 near Avenue 176 near Strathmore in Tulare County. The accident seriously injured one person and moderately injured two others. According to reports Antonio Pezzi and Megan Wiechmann of Sacramento were driving north on Road 224 when Pezzi saw an animal in the road. He then swerved right to avoid hitting the animal and swerved back onto the road and into the southbound lane. Then the vehicle Pezzi was driving hit a Honda driven by Abdur Razaq of Porterville. Razaq was taken to Community Regional Medical Center where he was treated for major injuries. Ghulum Mustafa was a passenger in Razaq's vehicle. Mustafa and Pezzi both suffered moderate injuries. Wiechmann escaped uninjured.

Accident at Avenue 208 and State route 65

November 14, 2010--Plasido Diaz, age 46, of Strathmore failed to stop at a stop sign causing a collision with a 2006 Ford pickup driven by Jesus Jacinto, also of Strathmore.  This Tulare County accident resulted in Mr. Diaz being airlifted to Regional Community Medical Center in Fresno.  A third vehicle driven by Steven Murray was also involved.

September 27 accident in Strathmore

On September 27 one person was seriously injured in an accident on Avenue 196 in Tulare County. According to reports the accident happened when Dustin Reed turned in front of a vehicle driven by Joshua Plunk. Plunk was eastbound on Avenue 196 when Reed was westbound on Avenue 196 and attempting to turn onto Road 256 turned right in front of Plunk. Plunk’s truck then overturned into a field. The two passengers suffered minor injuries.

August 24 Strathmore Accident

On August 24 Bernardo Zavala critically injured in an accident in Strathmore in Tulare County. According to reports Zavala was westbound on Avenue 184 when he ran a stop sign. His van was then hit by a truck, driven by Michael Stone, traveling northbound on Road 208. Zavala had failed to yield at the stop sign, therefore Stone had the right of way.  Zavala was taken via helicopter to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno where he was listed in critical condition. Stone escaped the accident uninjured. It is unknown why Zavala did not stop at the stop sign. www.nelsonrozier.com

November 22 accident at Highway 65 and Avenue 200 near Strathmore kills one and injures five

On November 22 there was a fatal 3-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 65 and Avenue 200 near Strathmore in Tulare County. An SUV was turning left onto Avenue 200 off of southbound Highway 65 when it was broadsided by a northbound pickup truck. Both vehicles then hit a vehicle waiting at the westbound Avenue 200 stop sign. The front seat passenger in the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. A girl in the SUV was flown to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries. The driver of the SUV and another girl along with the driver of the pick-up truck and third car were taken to Sierra View Ditrict Hospital in Poterville with moderate injuries.
