June 23 Livingston accident kills one

On June 23 a man was killed in a two-vehicle accident at Central and Liberty Avenues in Livingston. Reportedly the victim, a Merced resident, was driving east on Liberty Avenue approaching Central Avenue. Meanwhile Reginald Bronson was driving south on Central Avenue approaching Liberty Avenue. The victim failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection and drove right into the path of Bronson's Ford. The front of the Ford hit the driver's side of the victim's Honda. The victim was airlifted to a Modesto hospital where he later died.

March 18 accident at R and 13th Streets in Merced

On March 18 there was a two-vehicle accident at 13th and R Streets in Merced. According to reports the accident involved a Lincoln Navigator and a Ford Expedition. All of the four people in the Expedition escaped the accident uninjured. One of the two people in the Navigator was injured. The injured person was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Merced to be treated for her injuries. No further information regarding the cause of the accident is available at this time.

March 18 Merced accident is suspected dui

On March 18 one person was injured in an accident on R Street in Merced. According to reports Shaneil Pollard was driving her vehicle on R Street when she hit another vehicle. A passenger in her vehicle was injured and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Pollard was arrested for suspected driving under the influence.

March 18 Merced rollover accident

On March 18 a woman was injured when her vehicle rolled over in a two-vehicle accident at O and 18th Streets in Merced. According to reports a small green SUV was traveling south on O Street when it hit a truck which was eastbound on 18th Street. The accident caused the SUV to spin and flip onto its side. The driver of the SUV was trapped and had to be cut out of the vehicle through the roof. She was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Merced to be treated for her injuries.

March 4 bicycle accident in Merced kills a seven-year-old girl

On March 4 Joanna Topete was killed when she was hit by a car while riding her bike in Merced. According to reports Joanna was riding her bicycle on the sidewalk near the Sunny View Apartments on D Street in Merced when she turned into the parking lot of the apartment complex. Joanna was then hit by a truck. The truck was leaving the parking lot as Joanna entered. She died at the scene of the accident. The driver of the truck stopped and got out to help Joanna. He was not driving under the influence at the time of the accident.

November 24 fatal accident in Merced

On November 24 nine-year-old Daniel Saucedo was killed in a wrongful death accident on Yosemite Avenue in Merced. According to reports Nicholas Saucedo was driving east on Yosemite Avenue when for unknown reasons he swerved into the westbound lanes. Saucedo’s Nissan Altima then hit a Toyota Camry driven by Elaine Callis. The impact of the crash caused the Nissan to hit a tree and then a wall.  Nicholas Saucedo and his 16-year-old passenger were both taken via air to a hospital in Modesto. Callis was taken in an ambulance to a local hospital. Daniel Saucedo was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the Nissan. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

November 16 Merced accident injures five

On November 16 there was a single-vehicle accident in Merced that injured five people. Reportedly the truck was westbound on Olive Avenue near Bedford Drive when it veered off of the right side of the road. The right side of the front of the truck hit a tree. Phillip Lopez was a passenger in that vehicle and he suffered serious injuries as a result of the accident. The driver along with three other passengers were taken to Mercy Medical Center with minor injuries. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, but prescription drugs may have been. The investigation is still ongoing.

November 5 bicycle accident in Merced

On November 5 a bicyclist was injured after being hit by a car at 16th Street and M Street on Friday morning just after midnight. Reportedly the victim was riding east on 16th Street when the vehicle hit him while turning right onto M Street from 16th Street. The driver then fled the scene of the accident. The bicyclist was taken to Mercy Medical Center to be treated for a possible broken arm.

October 19 Highway 140 accident victim dies

Yolanda Charlton died from injuries resulting from the October 19 accident she was involved in. Reportedly Charlton was following a pickup truck driven by Jason Andrew Shetler on Highway 140 when Shetler swerved into the path of a big rig. The big rig then lost control and hit Charlton's vehicle. The driver of the pickup truck died as a result of the accident. A suicide note was found in the wreckage of the vehicle. Charlton was taken to a local hospital and died several days later.

September 16 Highway 99 big rig accident in Merced

On September 16 a big rig hit a car on Highway 99 in Merced. Reportedly the big rig was northbound on Highway 99 when it came upon a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lanes. The big rig then hit the other vehicle head-on. The driver of the big rig, Marvin Oliveira, escaped without injury. The driver of the car, Leonardo Daniel Garcia-Pineda, suffered minor injuries. Garcia-Pineda's passenger, Luis Cardenas, suffered minor injuries. Garcia-Pineda was arrested for driving under the influence.

September 14 hit and run pedestrian accident in Merced

On September 14 two boys were injured after being hit by a car on Bellevue Road near Secretariat Drive in Merced. Reportedly a westbound vehicle swerved off the road and hit the boys. The car then sped away. The boys were taken via air to a Modesto hospital. The boys were age 12 and 13. The older boy has been released from the hospital, but the younger boy remains hospitalized. No further details are available at this time.

June 28 Merced wrongful death bicycle accident

On June 28 six-year-old Andrew Jackson was hit by a car while riding his bike and suffered fatal injuries. Reportedly Jackson was riding his bike on Connie Court in Merced when he rode into the path of a Toyota Tacoma driven by Cher Thao. Thao was driving at a slow speed but he was still unable to stop the vehicle in time.  It was reported that the police officer who first arrived on the scene administered CPR until the ambulance arrived. Jackson was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

May 27 Merced Accident on a Motorcycle

On May 27 a man was injured in an accident on Highway 140 in Merced between a motorcycle and a Ford Mustang. Reportedly Wallace Dunn was westbound on his motorcycle when the Mustang, driven by Teresa Ledesma, turned in front of him. The motorcycle hit the side of the car. Dunn was thrown from the bike. Dunn was seriously injured as a result of the accident.

May 20 Merced accident on Rambler Road

On May 20 a 70-year-old man was injured in an accident on Rambler Road in Merced. Reportedly the man lost control of his Ford Sports Trac and hit a large tree on the side of the road. He was not intoxicated and it is suspected that a medical condition caused him to lose control of the vehicle. He was airlifted to the hospital. www.nelsonrozier.com

May 14 Highway 59 accident

On May 14 John Westbrook was injured in an accident on Highway 59 near Snelling Road in Merced. Reportedly Westbrook was traveling northbound when his car went to the east shoulder of the road, spun, and hit a tree. May 12 Merced big rig accident

On May 12 two people were injured in an accident between a 2 big rigs and a car in Merced. The accident occurred at the intersection of Carol Avenue and Yosemite Parkway. Reportedly Toni Neilsen received minor injures when her Ford Escort was crushed between the two trucks. One of the truck drivers, Robert Ceja received minor injuries. The accident may have occurred when the other truck driver, Manuel Gutierrez, and Neilsen were stopped at a red light. Ceja may have then crashed into the Escort pushing it into the other truck. May 8 fatal train accident in Merced

On May 8 Eustaquia Alejandro was killed when she was hit by a train in Merced. Reportedly the woman had walked into the path of an oncoming train at 15th and O Streets in Merced when she was hit and killed. The crossing arms were down at the time of the accident. May 8 bicycle accident at 16th Street and Canal Street in Merced

On May 8 a man was injured when he was hit by a car while riding his bike near the intersection of 16th Street and Canal Street in Merced. Reportedly the man was riding southbound across 16th Street when he was hit by a Corolla traveling eastbound on 16th. May 4 wrongful death accident on Santa Fe in Merced

On May 4 Alejandro Avalos of Winton was killed in a wrongful death accident in Merced. The fatality happened as a result of a head-on collision. The driver of the other vehicle, Augustine Gomez, was seriously injured. Reportedly Avalos was traveling eastbound and Gomez was traveling westbound on Santa Fe when Avalos turned into the westbound lane causing the head-on collision. April 24 Highway 99 dui accident in Merced

On April 24 Andres Lopez was seriously injured in a suspected dui accident on Highway 99 in Merced. Lopez was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Virgilio Perez Cruz when the accident happened. Reportedly Cruz was driving southbound on Highway 99 near 16th Street in Merced at about 70 mph when he abruptly turned left and hit the guard rail. Lopez, who was not wearing a seat belt was ejected out the rear window of the vehicle.
