Rollover SUV Accident near Highway 198 in Visalia

On Monday, March 30, 2015, a rollover accident left two people injured in Tulare County.  The SUV collision occurred near Highway 198, in Visalia.

A white Sport Utility Vehicle was driving when it was cut off by another automobile.  This caused the SUV to lose control and overturn.  The vehicle came to rest upside down at the Lovers Lane exit of Highway 198.

Three people were inside the SUV when the crash happened.  Two of the victims were injured and taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center, in Visalia.  The third person was not hurt.

Kings County Multiple Automobile Crashes on Highway 198 Caused by Fog

February 3, 2015- Multiple vehicle collisions occurred near Hanford as a result of early morning fog, on Tuesday.  The Kings County car accidents all happened on Highway 198, with the first crash near 14th Avenue, at about 7:45 AM.

The automobiles collisions that happened on the eastbound highway, between Lemoore and Hanford, were all fog-related, according to the California Highway Patrol.  At the time of the twenty crashes, that involved at least 42 vehicles, visibility was at 600 to 1200 feet.

At least five people were injured in the incidents.  The victims injuries were from minor to moderate.  They were taken to the hospital for treatment of their wounds.

Multiple Vehicle Collision on Highway 198 in Visalia, near Shirk Road

October 13, 2014- A three vehicle pileup caused serious injuries to one person on Highway 198, in Tulare County.  The multi-car collision occurred on Monday, in Visalia, at about 2:30 PM.

The accident happened on westbound Highway 198, east of Shirk Road, and involved three vehicles.  All lanes of traffic on the west freeway were blocked, and backed up cars for miles on the roadway.

One person suffered major injuries and was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno.  Another person was injured as well, and was taken by ambulance to Kaweah Delta Medical, in Visalia.

Tractor-Trailer Accident on Highway 198 and 43 in Hanford

September 18, 2014- A big rig collision happened in Kings County, on Thursday.  The semi truck accident occurred on Highway 198, in Hanford, at approximately 5 PM.

A tractor-trailer was traveling westbound on Highway 198, near the intersection of Highway 43.  The driver reportedly lost control of the semi, and the vehicle overturned.  The big rig blocked traffic on the highway intersection for hours while clean up was attempted.

The driver sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Visalia Roll-over Car Accident on Highway 198 and Demaree Street

Vehicle Accident Closes Connector Ramp of Highway 198 and 41

July 29, 2014- A vehicle accident in Kings County closed highways, on Tuesday.  The car collision occurred near Lemoore, at about 3:45 PM.

The two-vehicle crash took place near northbound Highway 41, and the eastbound connector ramp of Highway 198.  The accident closed the highways until officials could finish their investigation.

Motorcycle Collision on Mineral King Avenue in Visalia

April 20 Highway 198 accident in Visalia

 On April 20 there was a single-vehicle accident on Highway 198 near Ben Maddox in Visalia. Reportedly the vehicle overturned and traffic was backed up for several miles. Emergency crews were sent to the scene of the accident but no further details regarding the cause of the accident or possible injuries are available at this time.

January 23 fatal motorcycle accident in Lemon Cove

On January 23 Visalia resident Jocelle Cleto was killed in a motorcycle accident on Highway 198 in Tulare County. According to reports Cleto was driving west on Highway 198 through Lemon Cove when he lost control of his motorcycle. He then slid into the eastbound lane and was hit by a Chrysler. At first CPR was successful at resuscitating Cleto, but he died after arriving at the hospital.

January 2 Highway 198 wrongful death accident in Three Rivers in Tulare County

On January 2 a man was killed in a single-vehicle wrongful death accident on Highway 198 in Three Rivers in Tulare County. According to reports Joel Mathy was eastbound on Highway 198 when he drifted off the road near the intersection with Eggers Drive. The driver then over-corrected, lost control of the vehicle, traveled down an embankment and hit a tree. The victim was riding as a passenger in Mathy’s vehicle. Neither person was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. After the accident Mathy walked to a nearby restaurant to get help. Mathy was later arrested for suspected dui.

Fatal crash near visalia

January 2, 2011--A one-car collision near Visalia Sunday night claimed one life.  The vehicle was driven by Joel Mathy of Three Rivers who reportedly had been drinking.  The 45 year old passenger suffered a broken neck.  The accident was on Highway 198 near Eggers Drive.

August 22 Highway 198 accident in Tulare County

On August 22 there was an accident on Highway 198 in Visalia just west of Road 180 that injured five people. Reportedly Ofelia Vazquez, of L.A., was the driver of the westbound Ford Focus. Vazquez was westbound on Highway 198 when she left the road, entered the median, returned to the road, hit an RV, crossed the median and the eastbound lanes, and hit a cement barrier. Water truck Highway 41 accident claims a victim

May 11, 2010--This morning at 7:45 am a crash between a water truck and a car resulted in the death of one driver.  The accident happened on Highway 41 in Kings County near Lemoore, just north of Lacey Blvd.

Highway 41 has several dangerous crossings including a wide median at the Floral Avenue intersection with no stop sign in the median which resulted in the death of a 9 year old last year.  Highway 41 just south of Highway 198 was the scene of the death of a Kingsburg Hospital administrator, also last year.  Both cases are being investigated by the law firm of Nelson and Rozier in Visalia.  Cal Trans design defects allegedly contributed to the first accident mentioned.

May 6 Visalia accident between Highway 198 and Noble Avenue at Mooney

 
On May 6 a car rolled over between Noble Avenue and Highway 198 at Mooney Boulevard in Visalia. Reportedly the driver of the vehicle was injured and complained of neck and back pain. Multi vehicle crash at Highway 99 and Highway 198 in Visalia

April 23, 2010--According to the Fresno Bee, the injury count for last night's multi-vehicle crash near Visalia is now at 7.  The accident was on southbound Highway 99 at Highway 198.  One as yet unnamed victim was air lifted to the hospital.  At least 4 vehicles were involved.  According to witness Katie Duncan, a cargo truck was stopped dead in the road.  Just previously there had been a nearby chemical spill.

February 5 Highway 198 crash in Visalia

On February 5 a vehicle drove into a guardrail on Highway 198 at the Highway 99 on-ramp in Visalia. The vehicle was traveling eastbound on Highway 198 when it hit a guardrail at the Highway 99 on-ramp. Road work in Visalia may affect traffic

According to the January 30 Visalia Times Delta report, ramps on Highway 198 at Court Street in Visalia will be closed 9 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday of next week. This is order for crews to work on building an overpass at Santa Fe Street. Another project, installing a roundabout at Houston Avenue and Santa Fe Street may also adversely affect traffic. Crews will be working to patch potholes. Detour signs will be in place where necessary. January 25 accident on Highway 198 in Hanford injures 6

On January 25 six people were injured in an accident on Highway 198 at 12th Avenue in Hanford. The accident closed eastbound Highway 198 for 2 1/2 hours that night. The accident occurred when a small car slowed for a tow truck that was removing debris from the road. The small car was then rear ended by an SUV. Five of the vicitms were in that small car. The three in the back seat, all teenagers, were all in critical condition. The driver of the SUV, also a teenager, sustained minor injuries. January 25, 2010--Yesterday's motor vehicle crash on Highway 198 in Hanford injured 6.  A SUV rearended a smaller car whose five occupants were injured.  The smaller car had been slowing for a tow truck up ahead.  The victims were taken to Fresno's Community Regional Medical Center.

January 22 weather-related road closures

On January 22 several roads throughout the state were closed due to weather conditions. West of Coalinga to Monterey County, Highway 198 is closed. A large mudslide on Highway 41 caused it to be closed between Highway 33 and Highway 46. Highway 33 is also closed from Twisslman Road to Highway 46 due to flooding. Extreme weather conditions throughout the state have caused less than ideal road conditions. Motorists are reminded that posted speed limits are recommendations during ideal weather conditions.
