Fresno County Forest Service Fire Truck Accident, on Highway 168, near Clovis

An update to the United States Forest Service fire truck collision that took place on Sunday, July 12, 2015.  The SUV accident occurred east of Clovis, on Highway 168, at about 7:30 AM.  All the firefighters hurt in the crash have been released from the hospital.

53 year old Maria E. Constable, of Fresno was driving a Kia Sorrento on Highway 168, when she attempted to pass the fire engine in the right lane.  As the SUV merged, it sideswiped the truck, with the driver's side door hitting the front wheel of the other vehicle.

The U.S. Forest Service fire truck, driven by Derek Solden, of Mariposa, swerved off the freeway, and overturned multiple times, before coming to rest in a nearby field.

The Sport Utility Vehicle also rolled over and came to rest on the rooftop.

Fiver firefighters were in the truck.  All of them were injured.  Solden suffered major injuries, and passenger Lee Sands, of Groveland, moderate injuries.  They were taken by helicopter to Community Regional Medical Center, for treatment.

The other three firefighters; Ben Jongerward, Ryan Bakers, and Brittany Dowden, sustained minor injuries.  They wre taken by ambulance to Saint Agnes Medical Center, in Fresno.

Three of the firefighters were released from the hospital after the accident on Sunday. One was released on Monday and the remaining was released on Wednesday July 15th.

Constable was hurt, but did not go to the hospital.

U.S. Forest Service Fire Truck Collision on Highway 168, near Clovis, Six Hurt

July 12, 2015- A U.S. Forest Service fire truck accident took place in Fresno County, on Sunday.  The SUV collision led to six people hurt, near Clovis, at about 7:30 AM.

Maria E. Constable, 53, of Fresno, was reported to have been driving her Kia Sorrento Sport Utility Vehicle on Highway 168.  She said she was trying to merge and passed the Forest Service fire truck on the right side of the vehicle.

The SUV sideswiped the other vehicle, and the driver's side door hit the front right wheel of the fire truck.  The Forest Service truck, which was driven by Derek Solden, of Mariposa, lost control and ran off the highway.  It rolled four times and came to rest in a nearby field.

The Kia also lost control after hitting the fire engine, and overturned twice before it ended up on its roof.

All five firefighters in the vehicle were hurt.  Solden suffered serious injuries.  Lee Sands of Groveland, sustained moderate injuries.  Both were airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno.

The three other firefighters; Ben Jongerward, of Groveland, Ryan Baker, of Yosemite, and Brittany Dowden, of Madera, all had minor injuries.  They were taken to Saint Agnes Medical Center.

Constable sustained minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital.

Issues still remaining to be investigated include determining the speed of the vehicles, whether road conditions may have contributed to this accident, and whether the facts of this accident as reported are accurate.

Auberry Rollover Vehicle Collision Injures Four People, on Highway 168

Visalia, and Fresno Accident Attorney John Rozier has the subsequent collision report; On Sunday, June 28, 2015, four people were hurt in a rollover automobile crash.  The car accident took place near Prather, in Auberry, on Highway 168, at around 1 PM.

A gray Volkswagen vehicle, that had four teenagers, ages 17 and 18, inside, were headed west on Highway 168, in the Fresno County area.  The VW was reported to have been traveling at a high rate of speed, when the driver attempted to make it around a curve.

The auto veered into the eastbound lane, and the driver lost control after over-correcting.  The Volkswagen clipped a Honda Civic and went off the freeway.  The vehicle drove through fencing, and rolled over multiple times into a ravine, before it came to rest on its wheels.

The victims were trapped inside the car, until they could be rescued by emergency personnel.

Three of the four teenagers sustained major injuries.  The fourth person sustained moderate injuries.  One of the victims was medi-flighted to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno.  The other three were taken on the ground to Saint Agnes Medical Center, and CRMC.

The two occupants of the Civic were not harmed.

Four Teens Injured in Fresno County Car Accident, on Highway 168

June 28, 2015- A rollover car accident leaves four teenagers injured, in Fresno County.  The vehicle collision happened on Highway 168, in Auberry, at about 1:00 PM.

Four occupants, ages 17 and 18, were in a grey VW automobile, traveling westbound on Highway 168, near Prather.  It is reported that the Volkswagen was driving at a high rate of speed around a curve, and lost control.

The car swerved into the eastbound lane after the driver over-corrected.  The VW hit a Honda Civic, and then went off the highway, through a fence, and overturned multiple times into a ravine.  They were pinned inside the vehicle, after the crash.

The four victims in the Volkswagen all suffered injuries, with three of the four people in serious condition.  One person was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno.  The other three were taken by ambulance to CRMC, and Saint Agnes Medical Center.

The two people that were in the Honda were not hurt.

DUI Car Crash on Highway 168 in Clovis, One in Serious Condition

May 21, 2015- A DUI car accident took place in Fresno County, on Thursday.  The rollover vehicle collision occurred on Highway 168, in north Clovis.

Bikramjit Singh, 23, was driving his 2008 Ford Mustang at a high rate of speed, on Highway 168.  The Mustang veered off the right side roadway, near Thompson Avenue, which caused Singh to over-correct.  The Ford swerved across both lanes of the highway and overturned.

A passenger in the automobile suffered major injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno.  Singh received moderate injuries and was also taken to Community Regional hospital.

He was later arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Fresno County Fatal Automobile Collision on Highway 168

Visalia Elder Abuse Attorney John L. Rozier has the following update; on July 7, 2014, at about midnight a deadly car collision took place in Fresno County.  The automobile accident happened on Monday, near Auberry, on Highway 168.

The Fresno County Sheriff's Department reported that a deputy found a vehicle, driven by a Bay Area man that had crashed on the highway, near Auberry Road.  The driver was traveling west on Hwy 168, when he lost control of the car and went off the road.  The car then smashed into a tree.

A passenger in the vehicle, a man from Fresno, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.  No reports on whether the driver was also injured.

Update: Fatal Truck and Car Accident on Highway 168 East of Clovis

May 22, 2014- An update to the fatal collision on Highway 168, in Fresno County.  The victims in the accident, which occurred near Clovis on Thursday at about 8 AM, have now been named.

Officers say that a Ford F-450 pickup truck pulling a trailer was traveling eastbound on Highway 168, when it crashed into a Honda Accord, at Shepherd Avenue.  The Honda was driven by Lawana S. Davis, 35 years old, of Clovis.  The driver of the Ford has been identified as Patricio Villalvazo, 51 years old, of Fresno.

The 28 year old Clovis woman who was killed in the crash, has not yet been identified.  A 15 year old boy who was seriously injured in the Honda, has also not been named.  But two other passengers in the Accord have been identified as; David Latham, 35 years old, of Clovis, and Milthon Banegas, 26 years old.

David Latham also sustained minor injuries during the collision.

The California Highway Patrol reported that they are still trying to determine the cause of the crash.

Fatal Truck and Car Accident on Highway 168 East of Clovis

May 22, 2014- A fatal car collision took one person's life, in Fresno County, on Highway 168.  The vehicle accident occurred on Thursday at about 8 AM, just east of Clovis.

A pickup truck carrying a trailer was traveling east on Highway 168, when it collided with a Honda Accord at Shepherd Avenue.  The impact of the crash caused the truck to swerve off the road and smash into a power pole, and knocked the power lines down.

There were five occupants in the Honda.  One female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.  The four others were taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, with one being airlifted to the hospital.

Those in the pickup truck are reported to have no injuries.

Accident on Highway 168 near Shaver Ranch

February 4, 2012- A man suffered major injuries in a crash, on Highway 168, near Shaver Ranch. The accident happened on Saturday, at about 6:30 PM.

The driver of a white Toyota pickup truck, was traveling east on Highway 168, two miles from Cressman's General Store. He lost control of his vehicle and struck several trees.

The driver was not wearing a safety restraint, and was thrown around inside his truck during the crash. He was seriously injured and flown to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno.

The CHP reported that the driver might have been drinking before the collision.

Drunk Driver Causes Fatality on Highway 168

October 21, 2011- A man was killed in a crash involving an intoxicated driver in Fresno, early Friday morning.

Perla Vazquez of Clovis, was driving her Infiniti G-35 east on Highway 168 near Shaw Avenue at about 3 AM. She slammed into the back of a Jeep Wrangler, driven by Frank Winslow of Clovis, sending the vehicle off the freeway, 40 feet down an embankment.

A short time later an off-duty Madera Police officer saw that the Infiniti was heavily damaged and pulled Vazquez over, before she could exit at Bullard Avenue.


Frank Winslow died at the scene of the crash, after being partially thrown from his Jeep.

Vazquez was arrested for DUI, driving on a suspended license, felony hit-and-run, and she has now been charged with murder.
