December 31, 2011- A young man suffered fatal injuries after a crash near Shafter, northwest of Bakersfield. The accident happened at 11:40 AM, on Saturday.
Adrian Trujillo, 20, was driving his car on East Lerdo Highway, near Cherry Avenue, when he crashed into a tree.
Trujillo was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. A male passenger in the vehicle suffered moderate injuries. He was taken to Kern Medical Center.
Reports said that both occupants were wearing their seat belts.

Unknown Man Seriously Injured in Crash near Bakersfield
December 12, 2011- An unknown driver of a stolen car, was seriously hurt in a crash in Bakersfield, Monday at about 1 PM. The accident happened near Shafter, on Magnolia Avenue, just north of Lerdo Highway.
The driver was behind the wheel of a green, 2000 Honda, when he lost control of the car. The Honda swerved into an almond orchard, and flipped several times through the trees. It is reported that the impact nearly split the dashboard in half.
The victim was pinned in the vehicle and had to be medi-flighted to Kern Medical Center for treatment. He is still in critical condition.
Officers reported that the car had been called in as stolen, and the man was not carrying any identification. At that time they could not fingerprint him, because he was so badly hurt.
The officers describe the victim as an Hispanic male in his early 20's. Height about 5' 7" and weight 116 lbs.

Highway 43 Accident Ends in Fatality
October 23, 2011- A woman was killed early Sunday morning on State Route 43, in Shafter, northwest of Bakersfield, at about 7:15 AM.
The driver, Donna Lynn Barnes was parked on the shoulder of the road on Highway 43, near Burbank Street. She made a U-turn across the road and was hit broadside by a semi truck. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The big rig driver was uninjured in the crash.

The CHP reported that the crash happened at the intersection of Merced Avenue and Palm Avenue. A pickup truck with a trailer ran a stop sign and slammed into a car that had the right of way.
A passenger in the car, Ruben Solis Rojas, was killed. Two other people had to be flown to the hospital to be treated for major injuries.

Porterville man Slusser killed in Kern County accident
November 3, 2009--A 55 year old Porterville man named David Mark Slusser was killed Tuesday when his vehicle crossed the center line into the path of a big rig driven by Valcyro Yamashita of Parowan, Utah who was uninjured. Mr Slusser was driving north on Highway 65 in Kern County east of Shafter. He crossed into the southbound lanes near the intersection of Merced Avenue and struck by a Kenworth semitruck and trailer. Slusser was pronounced dead at the scene.
Issues still remaining to be investigated include determining the speed of the big rig, whether road conditions may have contributed to this accident, and whether the facts of this accident as reported by the sole survivor are accurate.
