Fresno Hit and Run Car Accident on Jensen and Chestnut Avenues Ends in Double Fatality

Central California Car Collision Attorney John L. Rozier has the following report; On Saturday, November 22, 2014, DUI crash took place in southeast Fresno, at the Jensen and Chestnut intersection.  The hit and run car accident happened at about 11:20 PM.

Rafael Arce Pedroza, who officers say was driving while intoxicated, was traveling in a Suzuki SUV on Chestnut Avenue.  He was speeding toward the intersection of Chestnut and Jensen avenues, when he hit a Nissan Pathfinder from behind, that was stopped in the right lane, at a red light.

The Nissan was driven by Jacqueline Rivera and also included her husband; Jose Chavez, son; Jose Chavez, daughter; Aaliyah Chavez, 11 years old, and her son's girlfriend; Savanni Ung.

The collision with the Sport Utility Vehicle caused the Pathfinder to overturn multiple times and hit a light pole in the intersection.  The automobile burst into flames, after the gas tank ruptured.

Pedroza was reported to have fled the scene of the accident on foot.  He was later found and arrested in his apartment.

Jose Chavez, his son, and Savanni Ung were all able to get free of the burning vehicle.  While Jacqueline Rivera and her daughter Aaliyah who were unconscious from the collision were not rescued in time.

Pedroza and the three victims in the Pathfinder all suffered minor to moderate injuries.  They were taken by ambulance to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno.

Southeast Fresno Hit and Run Collision Ends in a Double Fatality on Chestnut Avenue

Hit and Run Automobile Accident Ends in Fatality in Fresno

November 22, 2014- A drunk driving car collision killed two people in Fresno.  The SUV hit and run accident took place on Saturday, at about 11:20 PM.

The intoxicated driver, Rafael Arce Pedroza, was traveling on Chestnut Avenue, in an Suzuki SUV, at a high rate of speed.  At the same time a Nissan Pathfinder was stopped on Chestnut, at the intersection of Jensen Avenue.

The Pathfinder, which was driven by Jacqueline Rivera, was waiting in the right-hand lane, for the light to turn green.  Rivera was in the car with her husband Jose Chavez, their son and daughter; Jose and Aaliyah, and their son's girlfriend; Savanni Ung.

The Suzuki smashed into the back of the Nissan while it was stopped at the traffic signal.  The impact caused the Pathfinder to overturn three times.  It came to rest after it hit a light pole.  The vehicle then caught fire from a ruptured gas tank.

Jose Chavez, his son, and the girlfriend were able to escape the burning car.  They were injured and taken to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno.

Jacqueline Rivera, and Aaliyah, 11 years of age, who were reported to have been unconscious, were not rescued in time.  They were both pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

After the crash, Pedroza ran away on foot into an apartment complex.  He was later found by officers, in his place of residence.  He was arrested, and then taken to the hospital for treatment of his wounds.

Pedroza faces multiple charges, including vehicular manslaughter and DUI.

Drunk Driving Car Collision on Chestnut Avenue, in Southeast Fresno

On Saturday, November 22, 2014,  a deadly hit and run collision occurred on Chestnut Avenue in southeast Fresno.  The automobile accident happened at approximately 11:20 PM.

A Nissan Pathfinder driven by Jacqueline Rivera, was stopped at a red light in the right-hand lane, on Chestnut, at Jensen Avenue.  In the car was Rivera's husband; Jose Chavez, their son; Jose Chavez, daughter; Aaliyah Chavez, 11 years old, and Savanni Ung, their son's girlfriend.

A Suzuki Sport Utility Vehicle, driven by Rafael Arce Pedroza, was speeding down Chestnut Ave.  Officers reported that he was driving while intoxicated.  The SUV crashed into the back of the Nissan as it was waiting for the light to turn green.

The Pathfinder rolled over three times and collided with a light pole.  The vehicle then burst into flames, after the gas tank ruptured.

Rivera and her daughter Aaliyah were unconscious from the accident, and were not able to get free of the burning car.  They died at the scene of the collision.

The other three victims were able to exit the Nissan and were taken to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno, for treatment of their wounds.

Pedroza fled the scene of the crash on foot and entered a nearby apartment complex.  He was later found hiding under a bed in his apartment.  The police arrested him on multiple counts including DUI and vehicular manslaughter.  He was taken to the hospital for injuries and then later jailed, awaiting trial.

DUI Car Collision Kills Two People in Fresno, on Chestnut Avenue

November 22, 2014- A fiery automobile collision ended in fatality for a mother and daughter, in southeast Fresno.  The car accident happened on Saturday, at about 11:20 PM, at Chestnut and Jensen avenues.

Jacqueline Rivera was driving a Nissan Pathfinder, with her family, when she stopped at a red light, in the right lane of Chestnut Avenue, at East Jensen Avenue.

A Suzuki SUV, driven by Rafael Arce Pedroza, was traveling at a high rate of speed on Chestnut, and struck the Nissan from behind.  Pedroza then fled from the scene of the crash on foot.

The impact of the collision caused the gas tank to rupture in the Pathfinder, and the vehicle burst into flames.  The vehicle was knocked into a light pole in the northeast corner of the intersection, after it flipped three times.

Rivera's husband, Jose Chavez, their son, also named Jose, and a 16 year old girlfriend; Savanni Ung, all escaped the burning vehicle.

Jacqueline Rivera and her daughter, 11 year old Aaliyah Chavez, were knocked unconscious in the accident.  They were not able to save them from the vehicle in time and did not survive.

Investigators do not know at this time whether Rivera and Aaliyah died before the car caught fire, but they did not appear to be pinned in the vehicle.

Chavez, his son, and Ung, all sustained minor to moderate injuries and were taken to the hospital.

Pedroza was later found in his apartment hiding under his bed.  He suffered injuries in the collision as well and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.  He was arrested on two charges of gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI, hit and run, and other charges.
