Double Big Rig Collision on Highway 99 at Buhach Road, in Atwater

On Wednesday, May 20, 2015, a double semi truck collision took place in Merced County, north of Fresno.  The big rig accident occurred on Highway 99 in Atwater, at around 7:30 AM.

The CHP reported that the crash happened on southbound Highway 99, at Buhach Road.  The collision of the two tractor-trailers sent a truck from the northbound freeway across the concrete center divider and into the south lanes.  The big rig then overturned and spilled grain all over the highway.

The accident led to serious injuries, but no other information is available at this time.

School Bus Collision with Cattle Truck on Highway 165, in Hilmar

January 22, 2015- A fatal school bus accident took place in Merced County, northwest of Fresno. The big rig collision happened on Thursday morning, in Hilmar.

The crash occurred when a school bus that only contained the driver, crashed with a semi truck that was carrying cattle.  It happened on Highway 165, in the downtown area of Hilmar.

The 33 year old driver of the truck, who was from Chowchilla, died at the scene of the accident.

The bus driver sustained moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Motorcyclist Injured from Vehicle Collision in Los Banos

April 27, 2014- A motorcycle and car were involved in a collision, in Merced County on Sunday.  The accident happened in Los Banos, California, at about 12:15 PM.

The crash occurred at the intersection of I Street and 5th Street.  The motorcyclist sustained moderate injuries, including a possible broken leg.  The biker was airlifted from Los Banos Airport, to Memorial Hospital in Modesto.

No information on whether anyone in the vehicle was hurt.

Fatality of Visalia Woman in Merced Collision on Highway 140

April 5, 2014-  An early Saturday car accident killed a 31 year old Visalia woman, in Merced County.  The collision happened on Highway 140, at approximately 12:17 AM.

The woman, was walking along the side of the highway with her bicycle, near Orchard Drive in Merced.  Stephen Coelho, of Hilmar, was driving a 2007 Oregon Roadrunner hay squeeze, reportedly at 55 mph, when he did not see the pedestrian until the last second.

Coelho reported to the CHP that there were no lights and the woman was wearing dark clothing, so he didn't see her, until it was too late.  He tried to swerve out of the way, but hit the woman on the right front side of the vehicle.  Throwing her to the north shoulder of the roadway.

The hay squeeze then lost control and spun out after crashing into the woman.  The vehicle came to rest in the intersection.

The Visalia woman died at the scene of the accident.  Stephen Coelho received minor injuries.
