Fatal Big Rig and Van Collision in Fresno County, on American & Navelencia Avenues

January 9, 2015- A fatal semi truck accident took place in Fresno County, on Friday.  The van collision ended in four fatalities, near Orange Cove, northeast of Reedley.

A Chevy Astro minivan, that carried nine people, including the driver; Augustin Mendoza, of Porterville, was traveling on American Avenue.  As the Chevrolet reached the intersection of American and Navelencia avenues, Mendoza tried to pass a big rig illegally.

The tractor-trailer was turning left onto Navelencia Ave. when the van attempted to pass, and the Chevy smashed into the front of the semi.  The semi truck rolled over from the impact of the crash, and four people were ejected from the Astro van.

The van only had eight seats and the four men were not wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.  The passengers who were thrown have been identified as; Aguileo Vazquez Vargas, his son Fortino Vasquez Tepeco, Jorge Aguilera, and Pedro Rodriguez Vasquez.  They died at the scene of the accident.

The other farm workers suffered minor injuries and were taken for treatment, to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno.

The big rig driver was uninjured.

Mendoza was arrested for vehicular manslaughter.

Fresno County Van Accident Ends Fatally on American Avenue, near Orange Cove

San Joaquin Valley Automobile Accident Lawyer John Rozier has the following report; On Friday, January 9, 2015, four people were killed in a big rig accident.  A van and semi truck were involved in the collision, that occurred near Orange Cove, in Fresno County.

A Chevrolet Astro van which was carrying nine farm workers, from Porterville, was headed down American Avenue.  The driver, Augustin Mendoza, 39, attempted to pass a tractor-trailer that was about to turn left, at the intersection of Navelencia Avenue.

The Chevy crashed into the front of the big rig, and cause the rig to overturn.  Four victims in the Astro van, which could legally only hold eight people, were ejected from the vehicle,  They were Aguileo Vazquez Vargas, his son Fortino Vasquez Tepeco, Jorge Aguilera, and Pedro Rodriguez Vasquez.

The four men were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.  The other workers in the van sustained minor injuries.  They were taken by ambulance to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno.

The semi truck driver was not harmed in the incident.

Mendoza has since been arrested for four counts of vehicular manslaughter.

Semi Truck Accident Ends in Four Fatalities near Orange Cove on American Avenue

On Friday, January 9, 2015, four farm workers from Porterville were killed in a vehicle collision involving a tractor-trailer and a van.  The semi truck accident happened in Fresno County, near Reedley and Orange Cove.

A Chevy Astro van, driven by Augustin Mendoza, 39 years old, was traveling on American Avenue, with more passengers than there were seats and safety restraints.  The driver tried to pass a big rig illegally at the intersection of Navelencia Avenue.  The big rig had been turning left, when the Chevrolet van hit the front of it.

The impact from the crash made the semi truck overturn.  Four passengers in the Astro van, who were not seat belted in, were thrown from the vehicle.  They have been identified as; Pedro Rodriguez Vasquez, Aguileo Vazquez Vargas, and his son Fortino Vasquez Tepeco, and Jorge Aguilera, who were all from Tulare County.

The four men died at the scene of the incident.

The rest of the people in the van sustained minor injuries.  They were taken to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno, for treatment.  The big rig driver suffered no injuries.

Mendoza has since been arrested and charged with four counts of vehicular manslaughter.

Fatal Big Rig and Van Accident on American Avenue, in Fresno County

An update has been reported on the van collision that killed four people on Friday, January 9, 2015, in Fresno County.  The occupants of the Chevy Astro van were all from Porterville in Tulare County.  The big rig accident occurred at about 6 PM, near Orange Cove and Reedley.

Augustin Mendoza, 39, was driving the Chevrolet van on American Avenue, with eight passengers.  As he approached the intersection of American and Navelencia avenues, Mendoza tried to pass a semi truck.  The semi was turning left when the mini van attempted to pass.

The van ran into the front of the big rig, which caused the rig to roll over.  Aguileo Vazquez Vargas and his son Fortino Vasquez Tepeco, Pedro Rodriguez Vasquez and Jorge Aguilera were all ejected from the vehicle.  It is reported that they had not been wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

The 4 victims died at the scene.  The other occupants of the Astro van suffered minor injuries and were taken to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno.

The tractor-trailer driver was not injured.

Mendoza was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter for trying to pass the semi truck illegally. And for having more people in the van, than seats.

Four People Killed in a Van and Semi Truck Collision, in Reedley

January 9, 2015- A semi truck accident leads to four fatalities in Fresno County.  The van collision happened in Reedley, on Friday, at approximately 6 PM.

Nine farm workers were traveling in an eight passenger Chevy Astro van on American Avenue, near Navelencia Avenue.  It is reported that the minivan attempted to pass a semi truck illegally at the intersection.  The big rig attempted to turn left at the time the van tried to pass.

The Chevrolet van hit the front of the tractor-trailer and overturned.  Four people who were said to have not been wearing seatbelts, were thrown from the vehicle.

The four victims were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.  They have been identified as 56-year-old Aguileo Vazquez Vargas and his son 29-year-old Fortino Vasquez Tepeco, 55-year-old Jorge Aguilera, and 21-year-old Pedro Rodriguez Vasquez.

The driver of the Astro van; Augustin Mendoza, 39 years-old, and the four remaining passengers, sustained minor injuries.  They were all taken by ambulance to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno.  The semi truck driver was not hurt.

Mendoza could face four charges of vehicular manslaughter for the incident.
