Truck Crashes Into Amtrak Train in Madera

September 25, 2011- A Madera man sustained only minor injuries after his pickup collided with an Amtrak train Sunday morning. The crash occurred at about 7 AM, in the Madera area, north of Fresno.

Joe Irami, was driving a 2010 Dodge truck east on Avenue 15, west of Santa Fe Drive. He was approaching the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe tracks, and realized that the crossing arms were down. Irami slammed on his brakes, but the truck did not stop in time, and smashed into the train.

Irami was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno to be treated for minor injuries.

The accident is under investigation.

November 9 fatal train accident in Fresno

On November 9 Damien Montenegro was killed in a deadly train accident near Clinton and College Avenues in Fresno. According to reports Montenegro was a freshman at Fresno High School. The arm crosses at that intersection were reported to have been working before Montenegro was hit by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train. Montenegro was just fifteen years old. October 5 fatal train accident in Fresno

On October 5 Daniel Madsen was pronounced dead after being hit by a train near the intersection of Fruit Avenue and Ashlan Avenue in Fresno. Reportedly twelve-year-old Madsen was walking to school at Wawona Middle School with his sister and some friend when his sister and a friend ran north on Fruit in front of an oncoming train. Madsen followed the girls and ignored the crossing arms that had been lowered. The conductor of the train sounded the train’s horn, but Daniel was hit as he crossed the tracks. This is the second train accident at this location in recent memory that has resulted in death. May 9 fatal train accident in Fresno

On May 9 a man was hit by a train and killed near Bluff and Santa Fe Avenues in Fresno. Reportedly the man was walking his bike across the tracks while wearing headphones over his ears. The train conductor saw the man, sounded his horn twice, and applied the brakes, but was unable to stop in time. www.nelsonrozier.com

April 30 train accident in Fresno

March 15 train accident in Huron

On March 15 a man was hit by a train near 9th street in Huron. Reportedly the man was intoxicated and had passed out on the train tracks. He did not hear the warning bells and horn. February 23 accident between a train and bicycle in Fresno

On February 23 a man was injured when he was hit by a train while riding his bicycle in Fresno near Olive Avenue and Golden State Boulevard. Reportedly he was wearing earbuds while he waited for a northbound train to pass. Unfortunately he was waiting on another set of tracks and was hit by a southbound train. December 23 train accident dies from injuries, identified

The woman hit by a train in Fresno and dragged over 100 feet on December 23 has been identified as Tammy Pitts. She and a male companion were attempting to cross between train cars near Ventura and G Streets when the train began to move. The woman tripped and was dragged along the tracks for over 100 feet. Fresno Train Fatality

October 23, 2009--last week's fatal train crash in Fresno is still under investigation.  One man was struck by the train and killed.  Little additional information has yet been revealed.
