Van Catches Fire After Collision with Parked Truck on Caldwell Avenue in Visalia

On Tuesday, March 3, 2015, a box truck collision ended in fatality on Caldwell Avenue, in Visalia.  The Tulare County vehicle accident happened at about 2:15 PM, west of Akers Road.

The driver of a 2001 Chevy transport van, Christopher Paul Nelson, of Exeter, was driving westbound on Caldwell Ave.  The Proteus Inc. box truck, at Turnberry Place, either failed to merge into the one lane, or did merge and then drifted from the lane.

The vehicle drove along the right curb of the street, and hit a parked Southern California Edison truck head-on.  The two trucks then burst into flames after the crash.

Nelson was trapped in his vehicle and was unable to be rescued until after the fire was put out.  He died at the scene of the collision.

Police are investigating whether Nelson suffered fatal injuries before or after the fire.  And the reasons for the accident.

Pickup Truck Accident, Pedestrian Hurt, in Visalia on Caldwell Avenue

Visalia Accident Attorney John Rozier has the following collision report; On Saturday, March 21, 2015, a woman pushing a 1-month-old baby in a stroller, was seriously hurt in a truck accident.  The pickup truck crash happened in Visalia, at approximately 10:30 AM.

A pedestrian, Jasmina Uson, was walking on Caldwell Avenue, near Shady Street, with the baby in the stroller.  Uson crossed the driveway of a private parking lot, and was hit by a 2013 GMC Sierra pickup truck, driven by Donald Presser Jr., near the Sequoia Mall.

Uson sustained severe injuries.  The 38 year old was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center, in Visalia, for treatment.

The infant and Presser did not suffer any injury.

Visalia Vehicle Collision, Van Hits Parked Truck, Kills One on Caldwell Avenue

March 3, 2015- A Proteus Inc. employee was killed after a vehicle accident with a parked dump truck, in Tulare County.  The transport van collision occurred on Tuesday, in Visalia, at approximately 2:10 PM.

A 2001 Chevrolet box truck, driven by Christopher Paul Nelson of Exeter, was traveling west on Caldwell Avenue, near Akers Road.  The transport van either merged from the two lane road into one lane and then veered off, or the vehicle failed to merge altogether.

The Chevy drove up against the right-side curb, and smashed head-on into a dump truck that was parked for repairs.  The dump truck, which was owned by Southern California Edison, and the van caught fire and were soon engulfed.

Nelson was unable to be rescued of the Proteus truck until emergency personnel put out the flames.  He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The incident is under investigation.

Pedestrian Injured in Truck Collision on Caldwell Avenue in Visalia

On Saturday, March 21, 2015, a pedestrian pushing a baby in a stroller was hit by a truck in Visalia.  The Tulare County vehicle accident occurred at about 10:30 AM.

Jasmina Uson, 38, was walking down the sidewalk on Caldwell Avenue, pushing a stroller with a 1 month old infant in it.  As she crossed the driveway entry/exit of a private parking lot, she was struck by a pickup truck, on the 2400 block of Caldwell Avenue, near the Sequoia Mall.  The 2013 GMC Sierra truck was driven by Donald Presser Jr., 56.

Uson suffered major injuries and was taken by ambulance to Kaweah Delta Medical Center, in Visalia.

The baby and Presser were not hurt.

The collision is under investigation by the Visalia Police Department.

Tulare County Truck Accident, Vehicles Catch Fire in Visalia, One Fatality, on Caldwell Avenue

A truck collision took place on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at 2:10 PM, in Tulare County.  The van accident killed an Exeter man, after his vehicle crashed into a parked truck, in Visalia. on Caldwell Avenue.

A Proteus Inc., 2001 Chevrolet box truck, driven by Christopher Paul Nelson, was traveling west on Caldwell Ave., west of Akers Road.  The street becomes one lane of traffic at that point of the roadway.

It is reported that Nelson either failed to merge, or did merge but then the transport van swerved off to the right side of the road.  The van drove along the right side curb and smashed head-on into a parked dump truck, property of Southern California Edison.

The two vehicles erupted in flames after the crash.  The Chevy van's driver was not rescued in time, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers are investigating whether Nelson died before the fire, or as a result of it, and why the accident occurred.

Fatal Fiery Van Collision in Visalia, West of Akers on Caldwell Avenue

San Joaquin Valley Automobile Accident Lawyer John Rozier has the subsequent update; On Tuesday, March 3, 2015, an Exeter man died after his box truck collided with a parked semi.  The vehicle collision took place in Visalia, on Caldwell Avenue, at around 2:15 PM.

Christopher Paul Nelson, of Exeter, was driving a Proteus Inc. Chevy transport van westbound on Caldwell Ave.  On the street at Turnberry Place, traffic merges from two lanes to one lane.

It is reported that the box truck either failed to merge into the one lane, or that the vehicle did get over but then veered off to the right of the road, driving against the curb.  The 2001 delivery van drove head-on into a parked Southern California Edison dump truck.  The dump truck was at the side of the road for repairs.  Both trucks burst into flames upon collision.

Nelson died at the scene of the accident.  He was unable to be rescued from the vehicle until the fire was put out.

Transport Van Hits Parked Dump Truck Head-on, on Caldwell Avenue, in Visalia

March 3, 2015- An Exeter man was killed in a car accident that took place in Visalia, on Tuesday.  The Tulare County vehicle collision occurred on Caldwell Avenue, west of Akers Road, at approximately 2:10 PM.

A Proteus transport van, driven by Christopher Paul Nelson, was headed west on Caldwell Ave, where the road turns from two lanes into one.  Reports say that Nelson either failed to merge into the one lane, or that his box truck did merge over but for an unknown reason it swerved off to the right side of the street.

The 2001 Chevrolet transport truck drove along the right curb and smashed head-on into a parked vehicle.  The vehicle, a Southern California Edison dump truck, was parked for repairs.  After the collision, both the vehicles erupted in flames.

Nelson was not able to be rescued from his van until the fire was extinguished.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  Officials have not determined whether he died prior to the fire, or afterward.

Victim in Fiery Truck Crash on Caldwell Avenue, in Visalia, is Identified

Tulare County Automobile Collision Lawyer John Rozier has the following accident update; The victim in the fiery truck crash that happened on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, has been identified as Christopher Paul Nelson.  The vehicle accident occurred in Visalia, California, at about 2:10 PM.

Christopher Paul Nelson, of Exeter, was driving a Proteus Inc. box truck, westbound on Caldwell Avenue, west of Akers Road.  The road on Caldwell, past Akers becomes one lane from two lanes, in front of Turnberry Place.

There are conflicting reports on what exactly took place.  One is that as the transport truck drove down the street, Nelson failed to merge, for an unexplained reason.  The other is that the box van was already merged into the one lane, when it veered off to the right side of the roadway.

The 2001 Chevy box van drove along the curb and collided head-on with a parked Southern California Edison dump truck.

Both vehicles then caught fire and were quickly engulfed completely in flames.  Nelson was unable to get out of the Proteus truck, and died at the scene of the incident.

Officers reported that it is undetermined at this time whether the driver was dead upon collision, or from the fire.  The accident is under investigation.

Box Truck Driver Killed in Vehicle Accident in Visalia, on Caldwell Avenue

An update to the truck collision that happened on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, in Tulare County.  The fiery vehicle accident killed the driver of what has now been reported as a Proteus box truck.  The Visalia crash took place on Caldwell Avenue, west of Akers Street, at approximately 2:10 PM.

The roadway in front of Turnberry Place on Caldwell Ave. turns from two lanes into one, causing some issues with traffic having trouble merging. A Proteus transport truck was driving west on Caldwell Avenue, when it did not merge into the one lane.

The box truck ran head-on into a Southern California Edison dump truck that was parked at the side of the road, facing towards the oncoming traffic.  The vehicle then caught fire, and was soon completely engulfed in flames.

The driver, who worked for Proteus, Inc., was pronounced dead at the scene.  Officials reported that it wasn't immediately clear whether the driver of the transport truck died from the impact of the collision, or once the vehicle was on fire.

Officers have the accident under investigation.

One Killed in Fiery Truck Collision on Caldwell Avenue, in Visalia

On Tuesday, March 3, 2015, A driver was killed after hitting a parked truck, in Visalia.  The fiery vehicle collision took place on Caldwell Avenue, west of Akers Street, at about 2:10 PM.

The police reported that a small transport truck was traveling westbound on Caldwell Avenue.  The street at that point turns from two lanes to one lane.  The truck failed to merge over into the one lane, and crashed into a parked Southern California Edison vehicle, that was engaged in repairs at the side of the roadway.

The transport truck, upon impact with the parked vehicle, burst into flames.  The victim died at the scene of the accident.

Update: Six Car Pileup on Caldwell Avenue and Shirk Road, in Visalia

September 18, 2014- An update to the six vehicle collision in Visalia, on Thursday.  The name of the victim that was killed in the car accident has been released, by the Tulare County Coroner's office.

The female driver of the Toyota Corolla, has been identified as Janine Elizabeth Lee, of Visalia.

The pileup occurred when Brandon Lovenburg, 31 years old, was also eastbound on Caldwell Ave, in a 2005 Ford Excursion.  Lovenburg failed to stop in time, and hit the back of the Toyota, which was waiting along with other vehicles to turn left onto Shirk Road.  The impact of the collision, pushed the Corolla into the oncoming lane of traffic, where it smashed into a westbound 2006 Pontiac G-6, driven by Lorena Torres, of Tulare.

After colliding with the Toyota, Lovenburg's SUV then struck the back of a 2012 Ford Edge, driven by Benjamin Kiester, of Lemoore.  This caused a chain reaction of crashes, with the Edge, hitting a 2007 Chevy Silverado, driven by Nathan Jaramilla, and the Silverado then ran into a 2008 Ford Ranger, driven by Jason Hout.

Lee was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.  Kiester and Torres sustained minor injuries.  Lovenburg was not injured.  Neither was Jaramillo, nor Hout hurt.

Six Car Pileup on Caldwell Avenue and Shirk Road, in Visalia

Visalia Elder Abuse Lawyer John L. Rozier has the following accident report; On Thursday, September 18, 2014, a multiple vehicle collision took place in Tulare County.  The six car pileup happened in Visalia, at about 4 PM.

A 44 year old Visalia woman was driving east on Avenue 280/Caldwell Avenue, near Shirk Road, in a Toyota Corolla.  She was stopped with about four vehicles in front of her, attempting to make a left turn.

Brandon Lovenburg, 31 years old, was also eastbound on Caldwell Ave, in a 2005 Ford Excursion.  Lovenburg failed to stop in time, and hit the back of the Toyota.  The impact of the collision, pushed the Corolla into the oncoming lane of traffic, where it smashed into a westbound 2006 Pontiac G-6, driven by Lorena Torres, of Tulare.

Visalia High School Student Dies in Collision on Highway 99

August 23, 2014- A 17 year old Visalia boy was killed in an automobile accident, on Saturday.  The vehicle collision happened on Highway 99, in Tulare County, at about 7:30 AM.

Garrett Bragg was driving a 2001 Jeep Wrangler south on the freeway, north of Avenue 280.  The Jeep drifted off the left side of the roadway, near the Caldwell Avenue exit.  The vehicle hit the center divider, and overturned as Bragg attempted to drive back onto the highway.

Bragg died from the injuries sustained in the crash.

Update: Stolen Car Crashes into Apartment in Visalia

October 25, 2011- An update to the crash that slammed a car into an apartment building in Visalia, on Tuesday.

The stolen Honda Accord suspect, that the police were pursing, has been identified at 19 year-old Alex Requejo. As Requejo tried to evade the police while driving west Caldwell Avenue, he tried to turn from Caldwell onto Court. He lost control, plowing through a traffic sign, some large rocks, and into the apartments.

It is reported that a paraplegic woman lives in the apartment that Requejo crashed into. She is normally in bed by 10:30 PM, when the accident happened. But at the time she had just finished taking a bath, when the car slammed through her bedroom wall. She was unharmed.

Requejo is facing several charges, including driving a stolen vehicle and evading police.

It is unknown when the woman’s apartment will be fixed and ready for her to move back into.

Stolen Car Crashes into Apartment in Visalia

October 25, 2011- A car being pursued by officers crashes into apartments in Visalia, at about 10:27 PM.

The Farmersville Police was pursuing a 2001 Honda Accord, reported stolen in Visalia. As they were following the stolen vehicle down Caldwell Avenue, the car crashed into an apartment building on Caldwell, at Court Street.

The driver was not injured in the crash, and was taken into police custody.


There were no injuries to the residents of the apartment building. Those living on the bottom floor will probably not be able to return to their apartment in the immediate future. It is also reported that the traffic light was knocked out as well.

Motorcyclist Seriously Hurt in Crash On Caldwell Avenue

October 20, 2011- A motorcyclist received serious injuries Thursday, after a crash with a car, in Visalia.

Donald Ferguson of Visalia, was riding a Harley Davidson east on Caldwell Avenue, when a 2006 Toyota RAV 4 turned in front of him, near Drive 88.

The front of the Harley hit the left corner of the Toyota. Ferguson was ejected from the motorcycle, and slid across the roadway. Where he then struck a light pole.

Ferguson suffered major injuries and had to be airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

The Toyota’s driver was not hurt in the crash.

Visalia Motorcyclist Receives Major Injuries in Collision with Car

August 30, 2011- Motorcyclist, Anthony Galindo, of Visalia was traveling east on Caldwell Avenue, in Visalia, Tuesday night when he suffered major injuries from a collision with a car.

Galindo, was eastbound on Caldwell Ave., on a Suzuki motorcycle, just before 9 PM, when he tried to make a U-turn west of Ben Maddox Way, and crashed into a Ford Escort that was driven by Gloria Cabrera, of Farmersville.

Galindo suffered head trauma and leg injuries, and was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center. He was transferred later to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

No word on whether there were any other injuries as a result of the accident.

Accident at Demaree and Caldwell in Visalia

August 4, 2011- An eastbound Nissan Titan truck and a GMC van collided at Demaree Street and Caldwell Avenue on Thursday in Visalia. Police said the truck’s driver, David Hukill, 52, of Visalia, ran a red light while going east on Caldwell, tried to avoid northbound vehicles in the intersection and struck the van in the westbound lanes.















Both drivers were taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center with complaints of pain.

March 31 wrongful death accident at Akers and Caldwell in Visalia leads to murder charges

On March 31 Ruben and Gloria Mendoza, along with their 17-year-old son Ruben Mendoza Jr. were killed when their vehicle was broadsided by an SUV driven by Erick Head. Reportedly Head was evading a police officer who was attempting to pull him over on Highway 99 near Avenue 280 in Visalia. Head exited with his flat-bed trailer at Caldwell Avenue and sped along until hitting the Mendoza's vehicle at the Akers intersection. A third vehicle was also hit, resulting in minor injuries. Head tried to run away from the scene of the accident on foot. Head's passenger, Christina Garcia, was ejected from the vehicle, was treated for mild to moderate injuries at Kaweah Delta Medical Center, and was not charged with a crime. Head, however, was given several criminal charges including three accounts of first-degree murder.

Visalia fatalities at Akers and Caldwell

March 31, 2011--Very little is yet known about yesterday's triple fatality motor vehicle accident in Visalia.  The three car accident was at Akers and Caldwell involving a Volvo, a chevy sedan and an SUV hauling a trailer.

Before the vehicles are repaired, issues to be investigated include the speed of each vehicle as recorded in the air bag black boxes, skid mark analysis, survey of the area for witnesses, etc.  On a multiple fatality crash such as this the police report will not likely be ready for several weeks.
