Fatality Near Porterville after Woman is Struck by Two Vehicles

September 5, 2011- A Porterville woman died Monday night after being struck by two vehicles as she walked across the road, near Porterville, about 30 minutes from Visalia. The accident happened at about 9:20 PM, on Orange Belt Drive.

Sharon Nicholson, was standing within the northbound lane of Orange Belt Drive, north of Avenue 182, when a 2006 Dodge Durango, driven by Erica Sanchez of Porterville, traveling north hit her at about 50 mph.

Sanchez, tried to avoid the crash by slamming on her brakes and turning to the left, but was unable to avoid hitting Nicholson. The collision sent Nicholson in a northerly direction.

Sanchez parked her Dodge on the right shoulder, and as she got out a 1996 Honda Civic going 55 mph on Orange Belt Drive struck Nicholson.

The driver of the Civic, David Thavyvanh, also of Porterville, attempted to avoid Nicholson by swerving left but was unable to. Nicholson died at the scene of the crash.

It is unclear why Nicholson was in the road. The accident is under investigation.

This accident requires much more investigation. Please let me help. Attorney John Rozier in Visalia 559-713-0159.
