January 9, 2015- A fatal semi truck accident took place in Fresno County, on Friday. The van collision ended in four fatalities, near Orange Cove, northeast of Reedley.
A Chevy Astro minivan, that carried nine people, including the driver; Augustin Mendoza, of Porterville, was traveling on American Avenue. As the Chevrolet reached the intersection of American and Navelencia avenues, Mendoza tried to pass a big rig illegally.
The tractor-trailer was turning left onto Navelencia Ave. when the van attempted to pass, and the Chevy smashed into the front of the semi. The semi truck rolled over from the impact of the crash, and four people were ejected from the Astro van.
The van only had eight seats and the four men were not wearing seat belts at the time of the collision. The passengers who were thrown have been identified as; Aguileo Vazquez Vargas, his son Fortino Vasquez Tepeco, Jorge Aguilera, and Pedro Rodriguez Vasquez. They died at the scene of the accident.
The other farm workers suffered minor injuries and were taken for treatment, to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno.
The big rig driver was uninjured.
Mendoza was arrested for vehicular manslaughter.

Four People Killed in a Van and Semi Truck Collision, in Reedley
January 9, 2015- A semi truck accident leads to four fatalities in Fresno County. The van collision happened in Reedley, on Friday, at approximately 6 PM.
Nine farm workers were traveling in an eight passenger Chevy Astro van on American Avenue, near Navelencia Avenue. It is reported that the minivan attempted to pass a semi truck illegally at the intersection. The big rig attempted to turn left at the time the van tried to pass.
The Chevrolet van hit the front of the tractor-trailer and overturned. Four people who were said to have not been wearing seatbelts, were thrown from the vehicle.
The four victims were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. They have been identified as 56-year-old Aguileo Vazquez Vargas and his son 29-year-old Fortino Vasquez Tepeco, 55-year-old Jorge Aguilera, and 21-year-old Pedro Rodriguez Vasquez.

Accident West of Sanger on Del Rey Avenue
January 28, 2012- Two people died in a a crash near Sanger, on Saturday. The accident happened at about 8:40 PM.
Paul Rosales, was driving a 1995 Chevy Astro Van north on Del Rey Avenue. Posales failed to stop at a posted stop sign at the intersection of Del Rey and North Avenue.
A Ford F150 pickup truck, driven by Shaun Benson, of Sanger, was traveling eastbound on North Avenue at about 60-65 mph, when it broadsided the van as it entered the intersection.
The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to end up in a field at the side of the roadway. The van then burst into flames.
Paul Rosales, and, Rosa Lopez, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Their one-year-old twins, a boy and a girl, received minor injuries and were taken to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno.
Bensen suffered moderate injuries and was also taken to the hospital.
